Vail Resorts Announces new Live Look on Snow Reporting

  • Vail Resorts Install live, on-mountain Snow Stake Cameras
With snow falling and our Colorado resorts open or only days away from opening,Vail Resorts todayannounced the launch of a live-look snow stake camera now available to the public for its four Colorado resorts. This marks the first time guests can see the resort’s snow stake for themselves, offering a transparent update on snowfall at any time. Starting this season, snow stake cameras will be available at seven of Vail Resorts including Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood.

The new snow stake system re-imagines the way guests receive snow report information and allows them to see mountain conditions in real-time. This innovative system has been developed internally by Keystone ski patroller and features an electrical system that automatically flips the snow stake at the scheduled time every day.

Keystone successfully piloted the snow stake system in the 2012-13 winter season, and the system is now being extended to six new resorts this year. Canyons in Park City, Utah, is planning to join the program in the 2014-15 winter season. Each mountain will have access links to a time lapse video and static images on designated mountain website pages.

To access Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone snow stake please visit resort specific websites. The Colorado resorts encourage guests to share their snow photos using #vailsnow, #beavercreeksnow, #breckenridgesnow. or #keystonesnow.

Each resort will also have a daily GoPro snow report produced by an on-mountain experience reporter who will capture daily on-mountain GoPro photos and/or videos that will give guests a raw, real-time view of conditions on the slopes.

To view the snow stakes, visit the snow report page or the web campage on snow.com or on each resort site. Direct links to the Colorado Snow Stakes can be found here:
