WILMOT, Wisc. – Jan. 22, 2018 – Wilmot Mountain announced today that their 80th Season Anniversary Celebration will be held on Saturday, Feb. 10. The all-day free event celebrating Wilmot Mountain through the decades includes live music, an ice sculpting demonstration and fireworks.

Wilmot Mountain has a rich history, beginning in February of 1938 when the Polish-born architect, Walter Stopa founded and developed the Wilmot Mountain ski area with a single rope tow that was powered by a vintage Fordson farm tractor. On opening day, Stopa expected a small ski club to show up—instead, 350 skiers lined up.

Today, Wilmot Mountain has recently undergone a $13 million renovation by Vail Resorts and offers more than 120 skiable acres, 23 trails, seven lifts, two surface conveyor lifts and progression terrain parks with a double, high-speed rope tow.

“Wilmot Mountain and winter sports have come a long way since Walter Stopa founded the ski hill in 1938 and we couldn’t be more proud to continue his vision,” said Taylor Ogilvie, vice president of Vail Resorts’ urban ski areas and general manager of Wilmot Mountain. “Families have been learning to ski and creating wonderful memories at Wilmot for 80 years and we are looking forward to continuing to welcome guests for years to come.”
