Hunter Mountain 2026 Summer Tip Sheet

Just 2.5 hours from New York City, set in the northern Catskills, Hunter Mountain offers an easy summer getaway. Take in panoramic summit views aboard the scenic Kaatskill Flyer, hike to the historic Hunter Mountain Fire Tower, relax poolside at the Kaatskill Mountain Club, explore the mountain on a 4x4 tour, and wind down with Friday Night Burger Nights at Van Winkle’s Restaurant.

Summer Activities at the Mountain 
Hunter Mountain offers a mix of summer activities for visitors looking to get outdoors or relax at the resort: 

  • Scenic SkyRides: Ride the Kaatskill Flyer to the summit at 3,200 feet for panoramic views of the Catskill Mountains. At the top, guests can explore summit trails and visit the stone-carved statue of Rip Van Winkle. After your adventure, grab a bite from Scottie’s Good Food truck at the base.

  • Hiking: Options range from more challenging base-to-summit hikes to easier routes, including the trail to the historic Hunter Mountain Fire Tower, the tallest fire tower in New York State at 4,040 feet. Coming from NYC? Hop on the OvRride bus for a round-trip hiking experience. More info coming soon. 

  • 4x4 Tours: Northeast Off-Road Adventures (NORA) offers guided 4x4 tours across Hunter Mountain, with options from beginner-friendly daytime rides to sunset tours. NORA guests receive lodging discounts at the Kaatskill Mountain Club. 

  • Shopping: The on-mountain retail shop offers outdoor essentials and Hunter Mountain branded souvenirs.

  • Raise a Stein at Jagerberg Beer Hall & Alpine Tavern: Located just before the entrance to Hunter Mountain, Jagerberg offers a warm, alpine-inspired atmosphere featuring local craft brews, regional wines, and delicious German dishes.  
     
  • Antiques and good food at Last Chance Restaurant: A beloved Catskills staple, Last Chance Restaurant blends vintage charm with alpine comfort. Whether you are browsing their store, grabbing a drink with friends, or enjoying a meal with the family, this is a great spot to dine and unwind.  
     
  • Catch a show at Orpheum Performing Arts Center: Tucked right in the heart of the mountains, the Orpheum offers a taste of Broadway in the Catskills. From live music and dance to local theater, it’s an intimate spot where big talent meets small-town charm.
