Truckee, California – September 25, 2024 – Northstar California Resort, in partnership with Little Gems of the Sierra, is excited to announce the launch of a new Winter Weekend and Holiday childcare program, starting this December. The program, which will run from December 9, 2024, through April 7, 2025, and provide over 40 days of weekend and holiday care from 8:15am-3:30pm. This program serves children ages 2-5 years old and is currently open for enrollment.

This new offering builds on the success of Little Gems' year-round early-childhood education program, which opened its doors in the Village at Northstar earlier this year. The program, serving children from 3 months to entry into kindergarten, includes a preschool class for ages 3 and up that currently has availability for enrollment. The opening of Little Gems has added vibrancy to the Village, and the Winter Weekend and Holiday program is poised to enhance that energy even further.

“We are grateful to partner with Little Gems to provide these essential programs at Northstar,” said Doug Burnett, Director of Base Area Operations at Northstar California Resort. “Initiatives like this are key to building a sustainable, thriving community, and it’s been really inspiring to see the collaboration come to life.”

Little Gems, a non-profit early-childhood Waldorf program, brings its holistic approach—nurturing the head, heart, and hands of young children—to Northstar. The year-round program offers ski lessons for children ages 3 and up in collaboration with Northstar Ski School, while the new Winter Weekend and Holiday option adds flexibility for local families and visitors during peak season.

"We are so excited to be offering this new weekend and holiday option for families," said Andorra Fierro, Director of Little Gems of the Sierra. "It's been amazing to witness the community, families, and Northstar to come together to support these programs; and we’ve already seen the positive impact first-hand, not only on the children, but also the greater Tahoe Truckee community."

This partnership reflects Northstar’s ongoing commitment to addressing critical community needs like childcare, helping alleviate challenges faced by local families while offering a valuable benefit to Northstar employees and the wider Tahoe community. Support from the Martis Camp Foundation and the Tahoe Mountain Resort Foundation further underscores the shared effort to enhance early-childhood education and ensure access to community-based recreation in North Lake Tahoe.
