PARK CITY, UT (August 15, 2017) – The National Ability Center (NAC), a leading organization dedicated to empowering individuals of all abilities through adventure sport, recreation and educational programs, today announced that the company has secured an unprecedented 50-year land lease with Park City Mountain, the largest resort in the U.S., and aims to double its current number of lessons at their mountain location with year-round program expansion.
“Park City Mountain is where the National Ability Center started more than 30 years ago. This historic agreement solidifies our commitment to working together in order to provide guests of all abilities with superior accessibility to the mountain,” said Gail Barille, chief executive officer of National Ability Center. “This opportunity is monumental for us and reinforces our ability to provide programs to those in need not only for a day or a week, but throughout their entire life.”
Primarily known for winter adaptive sports and recreation, the lease empowers the National Ability Center to double its current 5,500 estimated lessons conducted each year as a result of being able to provide its best in class trainings and programs year-round for the first time ever. Spring, summer and fall programs at the mountain location will include activities such as mountain biking, hiking, and additional camps serving as a natural extension to its existing lineup. Expansion opportunities will benefit all guests of Park City Mountain, individuals with various abilities, NAC para-athletes and Paralympic hopefuls of who all utilize the organization for its facilities, coaches, instructors and more.
“The NAC is such an important part of both our local community and destination visitation,” said Bill Rock, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Park City Mountain. “We’re fortunate to host a facility and team that provides such outstanding services to kids, veterans and families with different abilities and Park City Mountain is proud to partner with the NAC to make these life changing programs available. This land lease marks the start of an exciting project that will further elevate the offerings to Park City Mountain guests. We look forward to continuing to support the NAC as they break ground on this historic plan.”
As a strong supporter of veterans and Paralympians, the National Ability Center is confident that the lease will help resolve its current capacity challenges allowing the organization to properly scale during this significant growth period. Hosting large groups like Team Semper Fi, who brought more than 100 marines across the country to ski on Park CIty Mountain, will now be possible. With a worldwide reach that spans 50 states and 18 countries, Paralympic hopefuls representing Australia, Mexico, U.S. and many other countries will enjoy a training space with areas to review film, meet with coaches, perfect their craft and more.
As a chapter of Disabled Sports USA and a US Paralympic Sports Club, the National Ability Center’s goal is to enable people with disabilities to ski, ride, bike and hike independently and with friends and family. The National Ability Center is working with Park City Mountain to finalize details while preparing for a busy winter season.
