The event features three races; the Western Hillside 10k is for competitors seeking challenge and glory; the Western Hillside 5k will put newcomers and novices to the test; the Kids 1K allows kids to experience the first-time thrill of racing on snow. Starting at 8,100 ft and surrounded by a breathtaking panorama of the Rocky Mountains, racers shuffle, step, and sprint to the finish line.
The races kick off at 11 a.m. at Creekside Park in Beaver Creek. The races feature a slope-side sponsor expo and a post event party at The Dusty Boot, which gives participants a chance to win a variety of giveaways and enjoy a post-race meal. Limited free demo and rental snowshoes provided by Atlas Snow-Shoe Company are available at the races as long as supplies last. Participants should head to Beaver Creek Nordic Sports Center at the base of Strawberry Park Express Lift for additional demo and snowshoe rentals.
To register online, visit www.beavercreek.com. To register in person the day of the race, a tent will be set up across from the Covered Bridge by the shuttle stop in Beaver Creek Village from 8:30 to 10:40 a.m. Next races in the series take place on Jan. 31 and Feb 28.
