Best of Tahoe Resorts: Heavenly Mountain, Kirkwood Mountain and Northstar California Resort Employees Partner with Boys & Girls Club of North and South Lake Tahoe and Truckee Trails Foundation for Company-Wide Volunteer Day
  • Local employees breathe new life into North and South Lake Tahoe Boys & Girls Club through various repairs and other painting and cleanup efforts, including construction of a Memorial Garden outdoor reading space.
  • Vail Resorts’ employees also aid in trail maintenance and debris removal throughout Martis Valley.
  • Over 2,000 Vail Resorts employees gathered across the country for EpicPromise Day, company-wide day of volunteerism.
On Saturday, September 19, more than 400 employees from Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort gathered to breathe new life into the North and South Lake Tahoe Boys & Girls Club locations, as well as help with various trail maintenance projects on Sawtooth Trail and throughout the Martis Valley in partnership with the Truckee Trails Foundation. These volunteers represent a portion of 2,000 Vail Resorts employees giving back to their communities as part of Vail Resorts’ annual EpicPromise Day.

Originally established in 2010, EpicPromise Day brings together employees, their friends and families, to support a local community need. Since its founding, the annual EpicPromise Day has allowed more than 6,700 volunteers to give nearly 26,000 hours of time to local projects.

“The mission of our business is to provide experiences of a lifetime in the great outdoors,” said Beth Howard, vice president and general manager of Northstar California Resort. “Each year, EpicPromise Day is an opportunity for our employees to directly support the communities where they live and where we operate. We are grateful for their commitment to this program and appreciate the opportunity to partner with local organizations and positively impact local communities in various ways.”

The Best of Tahoe resort volunteers updated classrooms and buildings at the Boys & Girls Clubs of North and South Lake Tahoe by deep cleaning, applying 29 gallons of fresh paint to the locations, installing and refurbishing cubbies, disposing eight tons of debris, crafting a sandbox and assisting in landscaping that created a beautiful memorial garden where students can read and study outdoors.

Volunteers also were able to trim overgrowth and remove debris and loose rocks from the Sawtooth Trail and repair a boardwalk running through Martis Valley, aiding in trail maintenance as well as erosion and water quality efforts.

Over the last six years, Vail Resorts has consistently demonstrated a commitment to sustainability through environmental and community support. Through EpicPromise, the company contributes $7.8 million in charitable donations to 250 nonprofit partners, organizes 20,000 hours of company-sponsored employee volunteer time, and executes on a variety of environmental initiatives each year.
