BROOMFIELD, Colo. – April 23, 2015 – Today, Grand Teton Lodge Company (GTLC) announces its commitment to support the national Every Kid in a Park initiative to engage and create opportunities for every fourth grade student across the country to have a meaningful experience in a national park.

Announced by President Obama in February, the Every Kid in a Park program officially launches across the country this fall, but GTLC will demonstrate its support for the initiative by being the first partner to bring fourth grade students to experience first-hand the majesty of a national park.

“We are excited to be the first partner to kick-off Every Kid in a Park.” said Alex Klein, vice president and general manager of GTLC. “Engaging our nation’s youth in our National Parks is an initiative our company is truly passionate about. Our goal is to give the students the opportunity to explore, learn and play within the park, providing them with a lasting memory that ties them closer to our parks for the rest of their lives. More than anything, we’re excited to have them reconnect with nature and each other within our picturesque playground.”

GTLC will be hosting a fourth grade class from Donald D. Stalker Elementary School in Blackfoot, Idaho, a Title 1 school 120 miles from the Park May 21-23, 2015. The school was chosen because of its diverse student population that, while located only a couple hours away, has had little exposure to its neighboring national parks.

During the overnight field trip to the Tetons, the students will be guided through a curriculum presented by Grand Teton National Park rangers and GLTC staff to gain a true appreciation for the Park’s flora and fauna, as well as camaraderie and recreation in the great outdoors. GTLC will be providing transportation, lodging, meals, activities and educational programming.

Every Kid in a Park is part of the National Park Service’s Centennial campaign. Designed to keep parks relevant to an increasingly urban and diverse nation, federal and state park and recreation agencies will strive to get every fourth grader into a national park through hosted visits. The National Park Foundation will help fund the transportation costs of the park visits, starting when the program launches in September.
