Registration Open For Pink Vail™
Fourth annual fundraiser benefits all patients at Shaw Regional Cancer Center
VAIL, CO– Registration for Pink Vail™, presented by Helly Hansen, is officially open. With all-day live music at Eagle’s Nest, themed deck parties, a costume contest and the Celebration Ski Down, March 21st is slated to be the most spirited Pink Vail yet.
Pink Vail is the world’s biggest ski day to conquer cancer. All ages and abilities are welcome, and you don’t have to ski to participate. Similar to a run or walk to support cancer, participants register at www.pinkvail.com and invite friends, family and co-workers to join their team or make a donation on their behalf. 100% of the proceeds from Pink Vail stay in the community, benefiting patient care and survivorship programs for all patients at Shaw Regional Cancer Center.
“This event started as a breast cancer event since nearly half of the patients we treat at Shaw are breast cancer patients,” explains Vail Valley Medical Center President and CEO Doris Kirchner. “The first year was so successful that the proceeds now benefit all patients at Shaw – before, during and after treatment. We are blessed with a passionate, giving community and know that Pink Vail 2015 will be something to remember.”
New this year, Pink Vail will host live music all day at Eagle’s Nest. Playing the event for their second year will be bluegrass band, Hardscrabble, opening their set at 9:00 a.m. The five-piece group is known for delivering a lively show for audiences of all ages. Next in the lineup is Kevin Heinz, a one-man-band singer/songwriter whose unique style involves looping vocals, guitars and percussion. Wrapping up the festivities will be Renegade Sons, a rock group who covers bands like Wilco, The Rolling Stones, Ryan Adams, Steve Earle, The Beatles and others. The concerts are free to all Pink Vail participants, and foot passes are available to non-skier event registrants.
While the music plays on, participants can ski the Checkpoint Challenge—visit three famous Vail Mountain decks to be entered for a chance at amazing prizes. If you visit all three decks, you’ll receive three entries. Each deck features a unique theme—Totally 80s, Country Hoedown, and Spring Break 2015—as well as games, music and prizes.
The Pink Vail Costume Contest is yet another way to win great prizes. Awards will be given for best individual and group costumes, so now is the time to break out that pink cape, tutu or glittery spandex ski suit. There will also be a “Most Spirited Team” prize, so get your friends signed up early and make plans. Top fundraisers are also recognized. Prizes include Head skis, Weston snowboards, Helly Hansen gift cards, Maui Jim sunglasses, spa packages and more.
One of the most meaningful parts of the day is the Celebration Ski Down at 3:30 p.m. when survivors, family, friends and those skiing in honor of a loved one will ski down Simba (renamed “Pink Vail Trail” for the day) as spectators cheer them into the base of Lionshead Village. The event culminates with food and drink specials at participating Lionshead restaurants and bars.
Pink Vail has raised over $1 million in its first three years, and the fundraising goal in 2015 is $500,000. Participants have ranged in age from 2 to 84 years old, and come from all over the U.S. with donations pouring in from all 50 states and nearly a dozen countries. Pink Vail funds the "Spirit of Survival" program, which offers all cancer patients and survivors at Shaw Regional Cancer Center the opportunity to receive free exercise training, nutrition coaching, emotional support, outdoor adventures, a nurse navigator, massages, alternative treatments and more.
Pink Vail wouldn’t be as successful without the support of national and community partners like Vail Mountain, Epic Promise, Town of Vail, Helly Hansen, Vail Valley Surgery Center, Maui Jim, Diversified Radiology, FirstBank, Slifer Smith & Frampton, Head skis, Larkburger, Bula, Chateau d’Esclans, Mountain Beverage, Korbel, Chambord, Crazy Mountain Brewery, Dusty Boot, Luminate Advertising, Lion Square Lodge, Evergreen Lodge, Arrabelle at Vail Square, Four Seasons, US Bank, Centennial Bank and Vail Daily. Sponsorships are still available by contacting Shelley Pinkham at (970) 569-7705 or shelley.pinkham@vvmc.com.
