More than 5,000 Acres of Terrain, 100-Plus Inches of Snow So Far this Winter, and Blue Sky Basin’s 15th Anniversary Provide Guests Plenty to Celebrate at Vail Mountain this Holiday Season
  • Vail has the most open ski and snowboard terrain in the country!
  • Blue Sky Basin celebrates its 15th anniversary this January.

Vail Mountain, one of the largest ski resorts in the world, has a lot to celebrate this holiday season with the most open terrain in the country! Mother Nature gifted the resort with more than two feet of fresh snow since Sunday, totaling more than 100 inches so far this winter season as the resort rapidly approaches the 100 percent open mark. Today, guests have access to more than 5,000 acres of developed ski and snowboard terrain on Vail Mountain.

“With plenty of new snow and nearly the entire mountain open at Vail, it’s going to be a truly unforgettable holiday season at the resort this year,” said Chris Jarnot, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Vail Mountain. “Vail’s entire mountain operations team has been working incredibly hard to open the mountain as new snow has fallen on the slopes. Our guests have a lot to look forward to when they visit Vail during the holidays and throughout the 2014-2015 winter season.”

Vail’s operations team anticipates opening the remainder of the resort’s lifts and terrain very soon, as conditions permit.

Blue Sky Basin Celebrates 15 Years in January
Following the holidays, the celebration continues at Vail when the resort’s legendary Blue Sky Basin turns 15 in January. Since its opening in January 2000, Blue Sky Basin has been a favorite amongst locals and guests from around the world, offering skiers and snowboarders a distinct backcountry feel, complete with glades, cliffs, steeps, and often plenty of powder and fresh tracks! This season guests can celebrate 15 years of Blue Sky Basin by making turns down classic trails like Big Rock Park, Resolution, Champagne Glade and Lover’s Leap.

Plus, January is an all-around great time to visit Vail, and one of the many off-peak periods guests can enjoy throughout the winter season. Holiday crowds have come and gone, there are great deals to be found, and the majority of terrain on the mountain is open and beckoning for skiers and snowboarders to make turns down its wide-open slopes.
