BROOMFIELD, Colo. – June 6, 2014 – This spring and summer, 18 Colorado-based Vail Resorts employees are participating in Vail Resorts Epic Volunteers program and will take 40 hours of paid time off to volunteer with the charity of their choice. Started in 2013 as part of the company’s social responsibility, Epic Volunteers was developed from employee requests to have more robust volunteer opportunities. Since inception, 36 employee volunteers have contributed 1,480 hours of service to 34 non-profits worldwide.
“Our employees get to work in some of the world’s greatest natural environments and sustainability runs in our DNA” said Rob Katz, CEO of Vail Resorts, Inc. “We heard from our employees that they wanted more volunteer opportunities, so we developed Epic Volunteers. It is great to see the impact our employees can have on the world with an extra 40 hours.”
The current class of 18 Colorado-based Epic Volunteers is supporting 17 domestic and international organizations. Volunteer activities include teaching business classes and basic literacy in Peru with Waves for Development, a medical services trip to the Dominican Republic with Timmy Global Health and being a camp counselor for kids with chronic and terminal illnesses in Avon, CO at Round Up River Ranch.
