BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. —March 24, 2014 – Breckenridge Ski Resort’s month-long Spring Fever Festival continues this weekend with two exciting events in its famous Freeway and Park Lane Terrain Parks - the 5 ‘til 5 Terrain Park Happy Hour and the Mountain Dew Throwback Throwdown.

This Friday, March 28, the 5 Chair will keep running until 5 o’clock, allowing skiers and riders to access some extra spring park laps. With a live DJ, hot dogs on the grill, and a jam-style contest where competitors can win season passes, GoPros and other great prizes, this happy hour surely is not to miss. The 5 ‘til 5 Terrain Park Happy Hours take place every Friday during Spring Fever, March 28, April 4, April 11, and April 18, from 2 – 5 p.m.

In addition to the 5 ‘til 5, Breck will host the third annual Mountain Dew Throwback Throwdown this Saturday, March 29. Watch as male and female pro snowboarders compete for a $17,000 prize purse and take on a two-fold challenge: competing in Freeway’s 22-foot superpipe, and then a specially constructed six-foot mini-pipe - an exact replica of the first one built at Breck in 1986. Tricks no more than 540 degrees of rotation will be allowed, so each rider will have to get creative with straight airs, alley oops, huge slow spins, and hand plants. The event is free for spectators to attend. Confirmed legends include: JJ Thomas, Chad Otterstrom, Chris Pappas, Ross Powers, Brian Daino and Meg Pugh. Current pro riders to watch: Zack Black, Arielle and Taylor Gold, Asher Humphreys, and Broc Waring.

During the 1984-85 season, Breck became Colorado’s first major resort to allow snowboarding, and in 1986, Breck hosted the first-ever Swatch World Snowboarding Championships. The Mountain Dew Throwback Throwdown pays homage to this history and is now an integral piece in Breck’s progression of the sport and kick-off to next year’s 30thanniversary of snowboarding at Breck.
