11th Talons Challenge Event Returns to Beaver Creek March 1, Featuring the New Talons Restaurant and New Interactive Wall of Fame
Beaver Creek, Colo. – Feb. 20, 2014 –Beaver Creek’spopular Talons Challenge event will take place Saturday, March 1, 2014 on Beaver Creek’s steepest and bumpiest black diamond and double black diamond terrain that has been blanketed by more than eight feet of snow since Jan. 1, 2014. In total, the event includes skiing or riding 14 trails and more than 26,000 vertical feet in one day. Participants will conquer the runs on Grouse Mountain, Golden Eagle, Peregrine and Kestrel, where the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships will be held, as well as trails in Larkspur Bowl.  

New this year, is the 17,000 square foot European and alpine-inspired Talons Restaurant situated at the base of Birds Of Prey, Grouse Mountain and Larkspur Bowl which will host the Talons Challenge après party and showcase the new Talons Challenge Wall of Fame. Talons Restaurant was built over the summer of 2013 in preparation for the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships and has 500 indoor seats on two levels, 250 outdoor seats and an indoor-outdoor bar appropriately named The Brink bar after a section of the Bird of Prey race course. Talons Restaurant’s expansive deck area includes an outdoor smokehouse under the sun that Talons Challenge guests and competitors will enjoy.

The new Talons Challenge Wall of Fame is an interactive 60 inch screen that will let guests search for Talons Challenge competitors by name or region from which they’re from. The bigger, better and more interactive Wall of Fame will be a staple to Talons Restaurant throughout the winter.  Talons Challenge participants have the chance to earn a spot for their name on the wall once they complete the challenge.

Those who successfully complete the Talons Challenge will receive a commemorative pin and Helly Hansen beanie. The celebratory Talons Après Party and raffle at Talons Restaurant will take place from 2:30-4 p.m. on Saturday, March 1 and registered participants will receive a complimentary bratwurst or chili and a Bud Light or non-alcoholic beverage.

Advance online registration is $35 and day-of registration is $40 and cash-only.  Registration fees include access to the Talons Challenge, a lanyard and credential for tracking runs, special 11th edition Talons Challenge swag, a commemorative cup provided by Bud Light and Klean Kanteen, food and drink and a chance to win prizes at the après party raffle. The event is capped at 1,500 participants. The 11th Annual Talons Challenge is presented by Helly Hansen. Additional support is provided by Red Bull, GoPro, Smartwool, Bud Light and Klean Kanteen. A portion of proceeds from the event will be donated to SOS Outreach, which is an organization that provides 5,500 kids with an adventure-based youth development curriculum.
