Beaver Creek’s National Safety Month Education Focuses on Helmet Safety; Kevin Pearce Film Screening at Vilar
Beaver Creek, Colo. - Jan. 17, 2014- The National Ski Areas Association (NSAA) has designated the entire month of January as National Safety Month. Beaver Creek’s safety education awareness efforts take place all season long. In honor of Safety Month, this year the resort is highlighting Helmet Safety and together with community partners, Kevin Pearce will be screening his film, The Crash Reel at the Vilar Performing Arts Center Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 6:30 p.m.

On Saturday Jan. 18 and Jan. 25, the Mountain Safety Team will also have a Safety Station at the base of the Centennial Express Lift (#6) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Guests can stop by for complimentary helmet fittings and there are a limited number of helmets that will be given away.

Kids can participate in safety activities next to the Safety Station and win prizes such as stickers, safety bandanas, Beaver Creek Rescue Dog cards, stuffed rescue dogs and more. Beaver Creek’s Mountain Safety Team members will be on hand to talk with skiers and snowboarders about Your Responsibility Code and safety etiquette. Representatives from ThinkFirst will at the Safety Station discussing head injury prevention.

Pearce’s film screening, The Crash Reel,  taking place on Tuesday, documents his quest to compete in the 2010 Winter Olympics when tragically in 2009 he suffered a traumatic brain injury that has left him with impaired skills. The film highlights Kevin’s rehabilitation and return to snowboarding with the help of friends and family. It is directed by twice Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Lucy Walker. Film tickets may be purchased for $10 online at vvmc.com/CrashReel or by calling (888) 920-2787.
