Tenth Annual Word’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition Winner Announced on Beaver Creek’s Opening Day
Beaver Creek, Colorado, Nov. 27, 2013 – After a great morning of skiing and snowboarding at Beaver Creek’s opening day, the resort’s tenth annual World’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition kicked off at 2:00 p.m. in the village. Five finalists served 5,000 freshly baked cookies and opening day skiers and riders had the opportunity to sample them all and vote on their favorite.
Beaver Creek Resort Company officials announced that Nancy Johnson, from Edwards, CO and her “Best Ever Chocolate Chippers” cookies as the winner of the 2013-2014 World’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition. Nancy’s recipe will serve as the resort’s official cookie recipe for the season. Nancy, along with four other finalists, baked 1,000 cookies each that were quickly consumed by guests during the annual contest which occurred at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. This annual tradition is one of several opening week activities taking place in the village.
Cookie masters submitted their entries and the top five finalists were chosen on Nov.6, 2013 to bake their creations for opening day at Beaver Creek. the top five cookie finalists include Scott Conklin of Avon, CO; Nancy Johnson of Edwards, CO; Shell Haley of Avon, CO; Ariel Levitt of Westminster, CO; and Sarah Braucht of Eagle, CO. The Wolffe, Troff and Hornbostel families served as the official judging panel for the competition and received judging honors through Beaver Creek’s Facebook page where they submitted their top ten reasons and qualifications for being cookie judges. The World’s Best Cookie Competition winner received $1,000; second place was awarded $500; and third place received $250. Fourth place received two four-pack tickets to any performance at the Vilar Performing Arts Center and fifth place received two tickets to the U2 Tribute band.
“Today’s tenth annual cookie competition brought extended excitement to opening day at Beaver Creek and the turnout was magnificent,” said Cat Coughran, director of events for Beaver Creek Resort Company. “The cookie recipes were unique and delicious. We were overjoyed to have had our five cookie chef finalists bake for guests today. This year we also had three very special families helping with the judging. This helped kick off this family friendly event and make the promise for delicious cookies during Cookie Time this winter season.”

Ingredients:
· 2 cups Flour
· 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
· 1 cup Unsalted Soft Butter
· 1/2 cup White Sugar
· ¾ cup Dark Brown Sugar
· 1 teaspoon Vanilla
· 1 Egg
· 1 1/2 cups Milk Chocolate Chips
