Canyons Partners with East Canyon Watershed Committee for Vail Resorts Echo Day
Park City, Utah. – September 16, 2013 –Canyons Resort, through the Vail Resorts Echo program, will partner with the East Canyon Watershed Committee as the fourth annual Vail Resorts Echo Day makes its debut in Utah this Saturday, September 21. This community project will engage employee volunteers, along with their families and friends, to work together in the cooperative task of rehabilitating East Canyon Creek near Swaner EcoCenter.
“East Canyon Creek is a picturesque part of the Summit County landscape but over the past century, residential development, tree removal and livestock grazing have greatly impacted it,” said Jake Powell of the East Canyon Watershed Committee. “In one day, Canyons volunteers will do the equivalent of five years of restoration work for us.”
Close to 100 volunteers are expected to participate in up to four projects including:

- Willow PlantingInstalling native willow cuttings along the stream banks.
- Tree Revetment Installation and Repair Teams will anchor (or re-anchor) cut trees along the stream using anchors, cables, and hammers to minimize stream bank erosion.
- Willow Wattle FabricationTeams will harvest willows, trim, roll and tie them into bundles to embed into the stream banks, reduce erosion and eventually sprout into thick willow stands.
- Fence RemovalRemoving a fence along Kimball Creek on the Swaner Nature Preserve that creates a barrier for wildlife.
