BRECKENRIDGE FESTIVAL OF FILM FALLS BACK TO FALL FOR 33RD ANNIVERSARY

More than 50 films featured in longest-running Colorado festival
The Breckenridge Festival of Film returns to fall after several years of kicking off summer festivities in June. Traditional film premieres combine with independent film programming, forums and unprecedented access to filmmakers as the leaves turn gold in the High Country, which is among the finest times to visit Summit County and revel in world-class outdoor activities during the day and world-class films at night.

Slated for Sept. 19-22, the festival strives to enrich lives through the ideas and emotions inspired by the art of filmmaking. More than 50 films (selected from almost 200 entries) will screen in seven venues throughout Breckenridge, making audiences, laugh and cry, eliciting emotions from delight to fear to passion to take action. This year, the festival is delighted to present the 2012 Oscar nominee for live action short drama, a film embodying creativity and artistry: “Death of a Shadow.”

“Though this film did not win the coveted Oscar award, it received critic accolades and acclaim,” Breckenridge Festival of Film executive director Janice Kurbjun said. “It is a beautiful piece that tugs on heartstrings at the same time it forces one to think about life, death and what happens beyond the known world. The ability to provoke thought at the same time a film is entertaining are key elements of the independent film genre, and we are proud to have 'Death of a Shadow' as part of our festival.”

Seven parties, premieres, a high school and college program, the all-new Adventure Reel, a special children's program and a closing night premiere round out the schedule of events.
Inspired and fueled by the festival's creative and active Colorado audience, the Adventure Reel is meant to truly embrace the character of the Breckenridge mountain community. Panel discussion topics include the “Democratization of Film” and “Making of the Shot,” both of which address the digitization of film and its accessibility by a broader pool of aspiring filmmakers.

Continuing the tradition of including the University of Colorado-Boulder film studies program, the Breckenridge Festival of Film again hosts professor Ernesto R. Acevedo-Muñoz as he brings the many years of “West Side Story” to life in a screening and special discussion.

The Breckenridge Festival of Film is known for attracting filmmakers, from well-known artists to artists looking to make connections. It is the small-town Breckenridge emphasis on community that makes the festival unique, encouraging generations of filmmakers to continue to submit their films for consideration and screening at the event. This year features renowned and amateur, national and international filmmakers.
