Construction Continues on Vail’s New Mountain Top Express Lift (#4) as a Helicopter Assists with Tower Removal and Concrete Pours this Week

VAIL, Colo. – July 18, 2013 – Construction work continues in preparation for Vail Mountain’s new, six-passenger chairlift to replace the Mountain Top Express Lift (#4). Monday through Wednesday of this week a helicopter assisted with tower removal and flew in concrete for new footings to support the future chairlift’s towers which will be installed later this summer.
The new high-speed, six-passenger Doppelmayr chairlift will be operational for the 2013-2014 ski and snowboard season and will result in a 33 percent increase in capacity, or 3,600 people per hour, which is the same capacity as Vail’s new Gondola One. It will feature loading gates with a right angle load and loading conveyor system, which has been shown to reduce the number of lift stops and slows, thereby increasing the efficiency of the lift. The old Mountaintop Express Lift (#4) was installed in 1985 and provides access to Patrol Headquarters and a number of surrounding areas including Vail’s legendary Back Bowls and Blue Sky Basin.
