Beaver Creek Set to Open More Terrain and Another Lift Saturday, Dec. 1; Small Terrain Park is Now Open
Beaver Creek, Colo.—Nov. 29, 2012—On the heels of the Birds of Prey World Cup Men’s Downhill on Friday, Beaver Creek is set to open more terrain on Saturday, Dec. 1 increasing its acreage to 209 acres and eight trails, with help from the resort’s expansive snowmaking system that encompasses 680 acres. The Cinch Express Lift (#8) will open for the season and Beaver Creek will have four main lifts operating as well as seven beginner surface lifts. Additionally skiers and snowboarders will be able to ride the shuttle from Beaver Creek Village to ski in Bachelor Gulch and intermediate level skiers and snowboarders will be able to ski and ride back to Beaver Creek Village starting this weekend.
Following the completion of the highly anticipated Men’s Downhill race, mountain operations crews will swiftly move to the top of Golden Eagle trail and prepare the upper portion to open for public skiing access for experts only starting Saturday. Upper Golden Eagle terrain will connect with upper Centennial trail/ Spruce Face providing expert skiers and snowboarders another trail and chairlift. The lower portion of Golden Eagle will remain closed due to the Super G and Giant Slalom races this weekend and race spectators should still ride the race shuttle from Beaver Creek Village. Gold Dust trail on the lower mountain also will open for the season on Saturday, providing two top-to-bottom runs accessed by Centennial Express Lift (Chair #6).
“Beaver Creek is fortunate that we’ve invested in an expansive snowmaking system and we’ve been able to create a notable World Cup ski racing venue for this week as well as a good quality snow surface for our recreational skiers and snowboarders,” said Steve Fellman, Beaver Creek snowmaking manager. “Our crews have simultaneously been focused on making snow on the race course as well as terrain across the entire mountain and as long as we have cold temperatures, we will continue to make snow and grow our acreage.”
The snowmaking crews also completed work on Intertwine trail connecting to lower Stacker and lower President Ford’s trails, creating skiing access for intermediate skiers and snowboarders to return from Bachelor Gulch to Beaver Creek Village; this connection is intended only for intermediate or expert levels. Sawbuck trail, a long beginner run in Bachelor Gulch, still should be accessed by riding the shuttle from Beaver Creek Village to Bachelor Gulch and beginners should return via shuttle.
Beginner skiers and snowboarders can take advantage of specially designed terrain to facilitate learning. The Buckaroo Gondola (Lift #1) and several surface lifts in the area offer a dedicated learning environment in the Haymeadow trail area. There is no beginner skiing or snowboarding terrain available on the upper mountain at this time.
Terrain park enthusiasts can head to a temporary park that is currently open in the Haymeadow area which contains seven small to medium size rails and boxes.
