Opening Day Cookie Contest Winner Named at Beaver Creek
Beaver Creek, Colo., Nov. 21, 2012 – Beaver Creek’s ninth annual Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition featured 5,000 freshly baked cookies that were tasted and judged by opening day skiers and snowboarders. Beaver Creek Resort Company announced that Jim Lee and his “Big Daddy” Cookies of Medina, WA as the winner of the 2012-2013 Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition and his recipe will serve as the resort’s official cookie recipe for the season. Lee, along with four other finalists, baked 1,000 cookies each that were quickly gobbled up during the annual contest which occurred at 2 p.m. today. The cookie competition is a fun way to kick off the season at Beaver Creek.
After receiving numerous entries from around the country for the competition, the top five finalists were Sara Braucht of Eagle; Laura Littman and Jonah and Asher Lefkoff of Boulder; Monika Hornbostel of Edwards; Jim Lee, “Big Daddy” of Medina, WA; and Anne Sullivan of Eagle-Vail. The finalists served their recipes to an eager crowd during the festive celebration in the village where three lucky kids served as the official judging panel. The winner received$1,000; second was awarded $500; and third place received $250. Fourth and fifth place winners will receive two tickets to any performance at the Vilar Performing Arts Center.
“We had a great crowd for today’s ninth annual Cookie Competition,” said Cat Coughran, director of events at Beaver Creek Resort Company. “The kids’ judging panel provided a great way to include the community and the enthusiasm surrounding this event provides a fun, festive afternoon for the mountain’s opening day. Ingredients:
· 2 ¼ cups Flour
· 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
· 1 teaspoon Salt
· 2 sticks Soft Butter
· 1 cup Sugar
· ¾ cup Brown Sugar
· 1 teaspoon Vanilla
· 2 Eggs
· 2 cups Nestle Semisweet Morsels
Beaver Creek serves warm chocolate chip cookies to guests daily at 3 p.m. for the resort’s signature program, Cookie Time. Approximately 500,000 cookies are baked and served annually by Cookie Time Chefs.
