Keystone, Colo. — Nov. 2, 2012Keystone Resort is open for the 2012-2013 season. The first chair, and gondola cabin, of the season headed up the mountain at 9am today, signaling the official start to another winter season at the Summit County, CO resort.

Enthusiastic skiers and riders began gathering at the base of Keystone’s River Run gondola before sunrise this morning in anticipation of top-to-bottom skiing thanks to round-the-clock efforts of Keystone’s snowmaking, grooming and mountain operations teams. The resort opened four slopes and five lifts, giving skiers and riders plenty of room to get in their first turns of the season. Intermediate trails Spring Dipper and River Run opened, along with the beginner trails Endeavor and Scout, the latter of which featured 25 boxes and rails from Keystone’s A51 Terrain Park.

Keystone officials began the day with a short celebration honoring Keystone’s co-founder Bill Bergman, who was inducted into the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame last week. The resort unveiled a special wrapped gondola cabin featuring Bergman’s image and presented the ski pioneer with a plaque commemorating November 2, 2012 as Bill Bergman Day at Keystone.

Guests were treated to warm donuts from Keystone’s renowned pastry chef Ned Archibald, as well as hot chocolate and coffee at the base of the gondola. Prizes, including a GoPro prize pack valued at $750 were handed out to eager skiers and riders waiting in the pre-opening lift line and EpicMix photographers captured the excitement throughout the day.

The Opening Weekend festivities continue Saturday with the A51 River Run Rail Series Back to the Grind Rail Session beginning at 4pm at the base of River Run slope. Guests can also enjoy  the Get Stoked movie festival at Warren Station, located in the heart of Keystone’s River Run Village, featuring some of the year’s best ski and snowboard films. Keystone’s Village amenities, including plenty of shopping and dining options will be open throughout the weekend.
