Northstar California™ Resort Opening More Lifts, Trails and Lookout Mountain This Weekend
  • More than 25 Percent of the Resort’s Trails, Featuring More than 15 Miles and more than 200 Acres of Terrain Now Open
  • 22’ Shaun White Signature Superpipe, First 22’ Pipe in Tahoe to Open For Christmas

TRUCKEE, Calif. – Dec. 15, 2011 – Mother Nature continues to offer cold temperatures, and Northstar’s snowmaking and grooming teams are taking full advantage of it. The resort announced today that it will open even more terrain this weekend, giving resort guests access to more than a quarter of its 97 trails, and the best snow surface conditions in Lake Tahoe. In addition, snowmaking efforts are nearing completion for the resort’s 22’ Shaun White signature Superpipe, with plans to open it over the Christmas holiday.

“The investments we’ve made in our snowmaking system over the years continue to allow us to offer our guests the best snow surface and the most open terrain in Tahoe,” said Bill Rock, chief operating officer at Northstar. “We’re committed to continuing to open more terrain and offering a high quality snow surface for all of our guests. The feedback we’ve been hearing from our guests is that the snow quality and experience are far superior to anything else currently offered in the region.”

This weekend, Northstar plans to open the Lookout Link and Martis Camp Express lifts with access to intermediate and advanced terrain on Lookout Mountain, marking the first time this season that terrain in every area of the mountain is open. The resort’s powerful snowmaking system has provided snow depths of 18-24 inches on all open trails with wall-to-wall coverage.

With the opening of this new terrain, as well as additional trails off of the Comstock Express and Vista Express lifts this weekend, Northstar offers top-to-bottom (2,280 vertical feet), front-to-back skiing and riding on 25 trails accessed by 15 chair and surface lifts.

Resort services are all in full swing, and the resort’s new Zephyr Lodge and Promised Land Express lift – both constructed this fall, will open to the public for the first time on Tuesday, December 20. The $30 million in capital improvements that have been completed at Northstar this season is one of the single largest capital improvements at any resort in the country this season.

“We’re excited to give our guests access to the Zephyr Lodge and Promised Land Express lift for the first time this season, and plan to continue to open more terrain as we lead into the holidays. In fact, our 22’ Shaun White signature Superpipe is on schedule to open in time for the Christmas holiday. It will be the only 22’ Superpipe open in Tahoe, and one of only a handful currently open across the country,” said Rock.

Complimentary “Meet the Mountain” tours will begin this weekend, offered daily at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to intermediate and advanced skiers and riders ages 13+ who want to familiarize themselves with the mountain. Tours meet at the entrance to the Arrow Express chairlift.

When purchased seven days in advance online at www.snow.com/lifttickets or through Vail Resorts Central Reservations, guests are guaranteed the price will be the lowest available for that day – and significantly lower over the holiday period – compared to the window rate.
