- Four lucky participants will be randomly selected to return to Vail for a ski session with Lindsey Vonn this spring
The inspiration comes from Lindsey’s own experience as a young skier and interactions with female role models who inspired her to the greatness she’s achieved today both on and off the slopes.
“I’ve always firmly believed that sports – no matter how good you are at them – build teamwork skills, self-confidence and really develop a sense of empowerment. Combine that with a group of girls and strong female role models and the sky is the limit,” said Vonn. “I understand the importance of being a good role model, especially to girls. Ski Girls Rock is a great way for me to inspire other girls to realize their potential through a talented group of Vail ski instructors who share the same passion I do.”
Ski Girls Rock lessons will consist of no more than four students per group and will be led by dedicated female instructors who will focus not only on improving skiing skills, but empowering girls through the sport and creating opportunities to bond and build confidence along with developing teamwork and social skills.
Women who will be instructing the programs also had the opportunity to meet with Lindsey recently to understand her vision for Ski Girls Rock and hope to convey this same sense to each of their students. Lindsey and the instructors discussed the goals they’d like to see the girls attain while building friendships in the process.
According to the Women’s Sports Foundation, an educational nonprofit organization founded in 1974 by tennis legend Billie Jean King, “girls and women who play sports have higher levels of confidence and self-esteem and lower levels of depression.”
Each girl who participates in a Ski Girls Rock lesson will receive a complimentary, Under Armour Ski Girls Rock hat. A lucky group of four Ski Girls Rock participants will be randomly selected to return to Vail in late spring 2012 for a ski session with their hero, Lindsey Vonn.
Ski Girls Rock will be offered Dec. 26-Jan. 1, Feb. 18-24 and March 11-24 for $279 per child for a full day including a lift ticket and lunch, or $260 for the lesson only. Ski Girls Rock is only offered through the Lionshead Ski & Snowboard School in Vail. Reservations are required and can be made online via SkiGirlsRock.com or by calling (970) SKI-VAIL (754-8245).
