Beaver Creek, Colo., Nov. 23, 2011 – Beaver Creek’s eighth annual
Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition featured 5,000 freshly baked cookies that were sampled by opening day skiers and snowboarders. Beaver Creek Resort Company officials announced that Shannon Bostrom of Georgetown, CO is the winner of the 2011-2012 Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition and her recipe will serve as the resort’s official cookie recipe for the 2012 season. Bostrom, along with four other finalists, baked 1,000 cookies each that were quickly gobbled up during the annual contest which occurred at 2 p.m. today. It was the perfect way to wrap up opening day.
After receiving 106 entries for the eighth annual Beaver Creek Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition the top five finalists, all from Colorado, were Katie Warren of Edwards; The Dirvonas Family of Edwards; Anne Laho of New Castle; Shannon Bostrom of Georgetown; and Celementine, Megan, Teaghan, Emily and Sydney of Eagle. The finalists served their top chocolate chip cookie recipe to an eager crowd during the festive celebration in the village. The winner received $1,000; second was awarded $500; and third place received $250. Fourth and fifth place winners will receive two tickets to any performance at the
Vilar Performing Arts Center, based on availability.
“We had a fantastic turnout for today’s eighth annual Cookie Competition,” said Cat Coughran, director of events and sponsorships for Beaver Creek Resort Company. “It’s amazing to see the enthusiasm surrounding this event and it provides a fun, festive afternoon for the mountain’s opening day. We had some incredible recipes to judge this year and we congratulate our five finalists as well as our new Cookie Time recipe winner for the 2011-2012 season, Shannon Bostrom.”
Winning Recipe: The Chunk
Recipe by: Shannon Bostrom
Ingredients:
· 1 stick Butter
· 1/2C Shortening
· 1/2C Granulated Sugar
· 3/4C Brown Sugar
· 1 Egg
· 2 1/8C Flour
· 1 tsp Baking Soda
· ¾ tsp Salt
· 1 ½ tsp Vanilla Extract
· 1 bag Milk Chocolate Morsels
· 6 oz Chopped Unsweetened Bakers Chocolate
Bake at 375 degrees for 12-14 minutes.
Beaver Creek serves warm chocolate chip cookies to guests daily at 3 p.m. for the resort’s signature program, Cookie Time. Approximately 400,000 cookies are baked and served annually by Cookie Time Chefs.
