Beaver Creek, Colo., Feb. 5, 2011— February is Adventure Month at Beaver Creek with plenty of on and off hill action. The month is focused on thrills and skills with specialized afternoon alpine skiing workshops in the trees, bumps and powder, and preparation for the highly anticipated 8th annual Talon’s Challenge event on Feb. 26, 2011. Additional grooming on some black and double black trails is being offered for advanced levels and book your Fairytale in February package now to take advantage of great mid-winter conditions. Throughout the month, Beaver Creek is sure to leave guests’ hearts racing with excitement and eager to return for more.
New this year, Beaver Creek’s Ski and Snowboard School is offering alpine skiing lessons in on-mountain adventure this month with Specialty Skill Improvement Clinics geared towards skiers who wish to take their skills up a notch. Whether wanting to learn how to carve through fresh powder, pound over bumps or twist through the trees qualified pro instructors will help skiers confidently navigate any and all kinds of mountain terrain. All month long the afternoon Skill Improvement Clinics are available to alpine skiers’ level 6 and up, with a maximum of four people per group in order to provide a more personalized learning experience. Lessons are offered daily from 12:45 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. on a walk-in basis day of and the cost is $125 per person. Powder workshops are dependent on conditions. Advance registration is not required and participants may drop into any adult ski school location to sign up the day they wish to participate.
First-time snowboarders and first-time skiers and beginner skiers also can join the action and participate in beginner afternoon lessons from 12:45-3:45 p.m. It’s a great time to learn a new sport and lessons are $125 per person.
Feb. 12 and 13 is Talon’s Tune-up Weekend for alpine skiers. Competitors participating in Talon’s Challenge can take advantage of a special weekend of afternoon alpine skiing lessons geared specifically towards preparation for the more than 24,000 vertical feet of the resorts’ steepest and bumpiest terrain that make up the arduous contest. Instruction will focus on skills for skiing bumps and steeps, tactics for approaching all 13 of the black and double black diamond trails, and energy conservation for maintaining stamina throughout the Challenge. The Talon’s Tune-up clinics are designed for advanced skiers level 7 and up and will take place on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, Feb. 12-13 from 12:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Sign up for the Talons Tune-Up Clinics day of at the adult Beaver Creek Ski School locations.
Adventurous skiers and snowboarders who prefer to explore the mountain on their own accord will find additional grooming on some expert terrain around the resort. Every Friday evening our groomers will be out smoothing the surface of Golden Eagle for Saturday morning. It’s one of the resort’s weekly signature groomed runs. Additionally, advanced levels will enjoy more grooming on trails such as Ripsaw, Raven’s Ridge, Shooting Star and Ptarmigan.
