Beaver Creek, Colo., Nov. 23, 2010—Beaver Creek Resort’s 30th season gets underway on Wednesday, Nov. 24 at 9 a.m. offering skiers and snowboarders one of the better openings in recent years with 426 acres of terrain, 11 lifts and a mix of beginner, intermediate and expert trails. In the afternoon 5,000 chocolate chip cookies will be served for the Beaver Creek Cookie competition at 2 p.m.
 
“Our experienced mountain operations teams have taken advantage of our early season natural snow as well as cold temperatures and we’re excited to open with good terrain for our 30th season,” said Doug Lovell, chief operating officer for Beaver Creek. “It’s exciting to see the great snow on our slopes this early in the season and we look forward to welcoming skiers and riders on opening day and for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.”
 
Tomorrow the following lifts will open for the season.
  • Centennial Express Lift (#6);
  • Cinch Express Left (#8);
  • Buckaroo Gondola;
  • Drink of Water (#5);
  • Bachelor Gulch Express (#16);
  • Strawberry Park Express (#12) for access to Bachelor Gulch only; and,
  • Five surface lifts.
Portions of terrain will be open in areas accessed by these lifts. There also will be a small jib park located near the base of Bear Trap trail for terrain park enthusiasts.  
 
The Beaver Creek Ski & Snowboard School will open for the winter season on Wednesday with private and group instruction offered for kids and adults. Opening day lift tickets will be $79 for adults, $69 for seniors and $52 for children 12 and under for a Beaver Creek-only ticket. Season pass restrictions were lifted for Friday, Nov. 26 and Saturday, Nov. 27 at Beaver Creek and Vail.
 
Spruce Saddle Restaurant will be open for lunch on the mountain and new this year, skiers and snowboarders can check out the “Lunch for Less” counter which features the daily $9.95 value meal and includes an entree, side dish and a beverage. Coming soon, The Chuckwagon, located at the top of The Ranch, will offer grab and go items for skiers and snowboarders near the top of the Buckaroo Gondola. Also new this season, Mamie’s Mountain Grill has an expanded deck and a yurt for indoor dining.
 
Weather forecasters are calling for another round of snow and plunging temperatures through Wednesday evening in the Beaver Creek area, which will enable snowmaking and mountain operations crews to continue working on other areas of the mountain. Additional terrain will open as conditions permit. 
 
At 2 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, skiers and snowboarders can sample five different recipes and vote on their favorite during the World’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition which takes place in Beaver Creek Village near the ice rink. The top five contestants from last month’s Cookie Contest will be serving 1,000 warm chocolate chip cookies each to determine the resort’s official Cookie Time recipe. The winner will be announced at 3 p.m. Beaver Creek serves its signature warm chocolate chip cookies to resort guests every day at 3 p.m. all season long.
 
Resort parking is available for free in the Bear and Elk parking lots along Highway 6 in Avon and includes a short shuttle ride to the Village.  Beaver Creek Village paid parking will begin tomorrow.
