Vail Mountain Expands 2009-2010 Closing Week Terrain
  • Portions of terrain in China Bowl, Tea Cup Bowl and Blue Sky Basin will remain open through closing day, Sunday, April 18
VAIL, Colo. – April 7, 2010 – On the heels of 19” of snowfall reported at mid-mountain this morning – the largest 24-hour recorded total for Vail Mountain since the 2000-2001season – in addition to 13” reported yesterday, the resort announced today that it will expand its closing week operating plan from what was announced last month.

“Our pass holders have been waiting all season for the kind of conditions we’ve had in the last few days and will continue to have through next week,” said Chris Jarnot, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Vail Mountain. “Vail’s snowfall is already above the nine-year average for April and with four feet of fresh snow in the last week alone, we’re thrilled to be able to change our plans and end the season with a bang.”

Beginning Monday, April 12, guests will have access to the mountain from Golden Peak, Vail Village and Lionshead. More than 3,600 acres of skiable terrain will be accessible by the following lifts through Sunday, April 18:
  • Avanti Express Lift (#2)
  • Wildwood Express Lift (#3)
  • Mountaintop Express Lift (#4)
  • High Noon Lift (#5)
  • Riva Bahn Express Lift (#6)
  • Born Free Express Lift (#8)
  • Northwoods Express Lift (#11)
  • Gopher Hill Lift (#12)
  • Vista Bahn Express Lift (#16)
In addition, the following lifts and surrounding terrain, which were scheduled to close for the final week of the season, will now also remain open through Sunday, April 18:
Sun Up Lift (#17)
Tea Cup Express Lift (#36)
Skyline Express Lift (#37)

Lift operating hours are posted at the base of all open lifts. Guests must continue to obey posted closures and observe the Colorado Ski Safety Act and Your Responsibility Code for their safety and the safety of other guests.

On-Mountain Dining
Also beginning Monday, April 12, skiers and snowboarders can enjoy lunch on the mountain at Mid-Vail, Buffalo’s at the top of the Mountaintop Express Lift (#4), Golden Peak Grill, the Express Lift at Mountain Plaza and limited services in the Wildwood Pavilion and Belle’s Camp.
