World’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Contest Winner Selected at Beaver Creek’s Opening Day Today
Beaver Creek, Colo.- Nov. 25, 2009-Beaver Creek’s sixth annual World’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition just wrapped up during the resort’s opening day. Resort officials announced that Jennifer Downs of Edwards, CO is the winner of the 2009-2010 World’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookie Competition and her recipe will serve as the resort’s official cookie this season. Downs, along with four other finalists, baked 1,000 cookies each that skiers and snowboarders sampled and voted on today at 2 p.m.
 
A record 91 entries were received and the five finalists were Lisa Artacho of San Jose, CA; Catherine Canaday of Brighton, CO; Heather Dirvonas of Edwards, CO; Jennifer Downs of Edwards, CO and Allana Smith of Vail, CO.  The finalists served their top chocolate chip cookie recipe to an eager crowd during a festive celebration in the village. The winner receives a$1,000 Beaver Creek VISA Gift Card which should come in handy just in time for the holidays. Second place honors went to Canaday and Dirvonas rounded out the top three.

Jennifer Downs’ recipe:
Mountain Top Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients:
§         ½ c. butter
§         ½ c. margarine
§         ¾ c. white sugar
§         ¾ c. packed brown sugar
§         2 large eggs
§         3 c. flour
§         2 tsp baking soda
§         ½ tsp salt
§         2 tsp vanilla bean paste
§         1 ¾ c. chocolate chips
 
     Method:
§         Preheat oven to 350?F
§         In a large bowl, stir together the butter, margarine, white sugar and brown sugar until smooth.
§         Mix in eggs one at a time, stir in the vanilla bean paste. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir into batter until blended. Mix in the chocolate chips so they are evenly distributed. Lightly roll heaping teaspoon full of dough in a very loose ball. Place on ungreased cookie sheet, spacing 2 inches apart.
§         Bake until the edges and top begin to brown. Approx 10 minutes. Allow cookies to cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet before removing them to wire rack.
