The road to Vancouver 2010 runs straight through Beaver Creek. The countdown is underway for the only stop in the United States on the men’s alpine World Cup circuit. The Audi Birds of Prey World Cup takes place in Beaver Creek Dec. 4-6, 2009 providing US fans with the best preview of Olympic contenders on their home turf. The race includes a Super Combined event on Friday, the premier event Men’s Downhill on Saturday, followed by a Giant Slalom on Sunday. Known for its diverse and abundant family activities, Beaver Creek Resort is taking its tubing program to new heights. For the 2009-2010 season there will be a new, surface lift-served six lane tubing hill operating in the prime afternoon activity hours. The tubing lanes run 300 feet in length and will be located just below The Ranch, our on-mountain children’s ski school center. Pricing for the new tubing activity will be announced in the fall. Nightly family activities will continue six of seven afternoons throughout the season including family snowshoe tours, ice skating, rail jams, and Thursday Night Lights. Kids also love the Rebound Trampoline, outdoor ice rink and après s’mores at the Park Hyatt. Mamie’s  Mountain Grill (pronounced \‘MAy- Me’s\) is a new outdoor dining option at Beaver Creek that will be located at the top of the Bachelor Gulch Express Lift overlooking scenic McCoy Park. The eatery is named after one of the early Bachelor Gulch settlers. Situated south-facing among a secluded aspen grove, its large sunny deck delivers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Mamie’s unique menu will feature “grill your own” kabobs with Colorado lamb or chicken and burgers, homemade signature soups, Euro dogs, Panini’s and a myriad of other options. Select domestic, imported and micro-brewed beers as well as warm Gluvine and non-alcoholic choices will be available. Open daily during ski season from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and providing picnic table seating for more than 100 skiers and snowboarders, Mamie’s is sure to become a must-visit spot.

 

American Airlines Kids Fly, Ski, Stay and Ride FREE This Winter
Families who ski Beaver Creek can take advantage of free kids’ airfares when they book a vacation into the Eagle Airport thanks to American Airlines’ Kids Fly Free program. For each paid adult fare (age 18 and above), American is offering one free child’s ticket for ages 2-12 which may be booked now through Feb. 10, 2010. Families must travel to Beaver Creek between Sunday and Wednesday and from the resort between Tuesday and Friday. This offer is valid for travel Dec. 1-17, 2009 and Jan. 3 – Feb. 10, 2010 with no blackout dates; travel must be booked by Feb. 10, 2010.  This offer also allows kids to ski and stay for free and Colorado Mountain Express transports kids for free as part of this package. Cookie Competition
The World’s Best Cookie Competition is set for opening day at Beaver Creek Nov. 25, 2009.  Five finalists will serve up 1,000 cookies each and skiers and snowboarders can indulge and vote on their favorite recipe to determine the resort’s official Cookie Time recipe. Each day at 3 p.m. resort guests enjoy free warm chocolate chip cookies all season long. Cookie Competition recipe finalists are chosen in the fall from submissions all over the US. Beaver Creek’s 13 mountain attractions offer fun family adventures for the young and young-at-heart. From Jack Rabbit Alley to Buckaroo Bowl and the Okee Dokee Korral, explore your child’s favorite runs- they may not be on your trail map. New for 2009-2010 discover more gladed tree skiing trails in the attractions in Bachelor Gulch and other areas. Ripperoo, the Kids’ Ski School mascot, will have a new ski-to cabin on the main mountain. Ripperoo’s handler will share information about the daily ske-cology environmental message and safety tips. The Ranch, the state-of- the-art kids ski school facility at the top of the Buckaroo Express Gondola also will celebrate its second season. The center features healthy lunch options for kids’ ski school participants and flat screens for constructive video playback while refueling. Its location sits among customized beginner terrain that’s invaluable for teaching adults and kids. From the Ranch, kids can easily navigate their way to Buckaroo Bowl or the Okee Dokee Korral on the way down to the base area where mom and dad can see their progress.

 

Female skiers and snowboarders of all ages are invited to a winter revival in Beaver Creek Jan. 6-9, 2010. Professional snowboarders Megan Pischke Porcheron and Barrett Christy Cummins will be joined by pro skier Kasha Rigby, yoga instructor Amy Baker and life counselor/ coach Linda Kennoy to offer ReTreat Yourself, a getaway where women can connect with each other on the mountain and on their yoga mats while discovering peace within themselves. If you’ve ever wondered what type of animal tracks grace the snow under a chairlift, or why a porcupine chews on tree bark, you’re the perfect candidate for Beaver Creek’s Ski with a Ranger program. Led by a US Forest Service volunteer, these environmental education tours lead interested skiers and snowboarders of all ages and ability levels through a journey of the mountain’s ecology, wildlife (including birds of prey), area history and forest management in the White River National Forest. Open to all ages, the on snow tours meet at the interactive Environmental Learning Center on the mountain and explore a different theme every week. A lift ticket is required to participate.

 

When heading to a vacation spot, insider’s tips can enhance the experience. At Beaver Creek complimentary Mountain Welcome Tours are available daily in the heart of the season for intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders that want to explore and learn the mountain. At day’s end more than 3,000 free chocolate chip cookies are served to guests as they step off of the slopes. Collector edition post cards are distributed daily and mailed free of charge around the globe. “Cocoa and Corduroy”; pick up a warm cup of cocoa and a grooming map to start your day of play. At Spruce Saddle Lodge, the “Greet and Seat” team will find you a spot to refuel with your family. Village Transportation/ on demand rides are at your service and will take you around the resort via a convenient pick up and drop off schedule. Thursday Night Lights welcomes skiers and boarders level 5 and above to join the glow stick ski down each week which includes fireworks after the ski down.

 

Safety on the slopes is top of mind for families and it’s a top priority at Beaver Creek. The resort was awarded its second consecutive Best Overall Safety Award from the National Ski Areas Association last spring and it’s the eighth safety award presented to Beaver Creek. Capturing not only locals through comprehensive in-school education programs with elementary schools, the Yellow Jacket Safety Team Safety By Numbers campaign targets guests from domestic and international locales. Each season the Safety Team ups the ante and develops new educational programs that meet the needs of current industry trends. Last winter with abundant snowfall and increasing back country popularity, the Beaver Creek Ski Patrol focused on offering free Back Country and Safety Awareness classes incorporating their veteran Avalanche Rescue Dogs, Blu and Dixie, to demonstrate proper planning and preparation and perform mock rescues. The visibility of Beaver Creek’s Avalanche Rescue Dogs who can be seen working on the slopes daily, also raises general safety awareness and sparks valuable conversations with kids and adults.
