BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. – March 18, 2009- With remarkable snow still blanketing the four peaks at Breckenridge Ski Resort, and a 20-day party during April, Breckenridge’s Spring Massive is a must attend event. Below are just a few Spring Massive events. For the full schedule, check out www.breckenridge.com.
This year’s Spring Massive Festival has stepped it up another notch with a massive new addition to the Massive Competition Weekend, April 3-4. Breckenridge is kicking off the weekend on the legendary Freeway Terrain Park jump line. No, this is not a traditional slopestyle competition - your eyes need to be in the air at all times as skiers and riders go big off of three perfectly cut jumps and a quarterpipe to match. Other weekend events include the Matt Wyffels Massive Rail Jam: Benefit for Riley Poor and the Massive Style and Air Competition. All the competitions are open events, visit www.breckenridge.com to register.
On April 11, The Breckenridge Beer Festival combines two things: legendary music and great beer. The Massive Beer Festival at Main Street Station features 20 microbrews and craft beers with unlimited tasting. Of course one can’t enjoy fine beer without some tunes. Live music at the Beer Festival includes the swamp music of Papa Mali, the rock of Motorhome, and Colorado’s Big Richard a sweet six piece rock band. Cost is $30 per person at the door. For information and discount early ticket prices call KSMT at 970-453-2234 or visit www.ksmtradio.com.
A great end-of-season party must include a great band. During closing weekend, Bud Light and Breckenridge present the smooth sounds of Keller Williams with opening act Salem. On Saturday, April 18 at 2:45 p.m. take in the free Massive Music concert finale at Breck’s Riverwalk Center.
If that isn’t enough, get the last great workout of the winter at Breck’s famous Imperial Challenge. On April 19, the 13th annual Imperial Challenge kicks off with a 6.2 mile mountain bike from downtown Breckenridge across Peak 7 to Peak 8. Then move on to a 2,500 foot skin ascent to the top of Peak 8’s Imperial Bowl. Once reaching the top, race competitors descend to the base of Peak 8.
