VAIL, Colo. – Jan. 22, 2009 – As 2009 continues to usher in change, why not learn to telemark ski? The Vail Snowsports Nordic School's Telemark Workshop Series will be held in on Saturday, Jan. 24 and again on Saturday, Feb. 21 and Saturday, Mar. 28 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. in Golden Peak. All abilities, ages 14 and up are welcome, from beginners looking to free their heels to advanced Telemark skiers who want to improve their form and skills.
The workshops will focus on everything from the fundamentals of telemark skiing to in-depth technique analysis, depending on ability. Participants should meet at the Vail Snowsports Nordic School, located in Golden Peak, allowing approximately 30 minutes for equipment preparation in advance of the workshop. Rental equipment is available through Vail Sports in Golden Peak, featuring Garmont boots and K2 skis. Guests may also bring their own equipment. The full day workshop is offered for $79; $145 including a lift ticket.
Those looking for additional telemark instruction can take advantage of Vail Resorts’ Learn a Snow Sport Month in January with 20% savings on full-day private lessons. This offer is also valid for full-day private alpine and snowboard lessons through Sunday, Feb. 8 at any Vail Snowsports School location.
Skin & Ski Tour
Head into the backcountry for a tour on telemark skis and skins every Wednesday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. This new program provides a solid introduction to backcountry skiing, avalanche awareness and an opportunity to test your telemark turns on new terrain. Skin & Ski is offered for $119, including skins, shovels and beacons.
Beacon & Shovel Tour
Also new to the Vail Snowsports Nordic School this season is the Beacon & Shovel Tour, every Thursday from 1 – 3 p.m. This adult introduction to avalanche awareness includes snowshoes, boots, poles, shovels, beacons and gaiters for $85.
Nordic Sampler
Can’t decide? Try three Nordic sports – cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and telemark skiing – in three days. The Nordic Sampler is offered every Thursday through Saturday for $170 or $229 with a one-day lift ticket. Cross-country and snowshoe gear provided; telemark equipment available through Vail Sports in Golden Peak.
