SNOW ALERT: b-roll and photos available
Beaver Creek, Colo. – Dec. 14, 2008 – Mother Nature delivered an early holiday gift to skiers and snowboarders: another major storm that brought more than a foot of snow to Vail (12 inches) and Beaver Creek (14 inches) overnight plus snow continued throughout the day. This storm follows on the heels of a series of early-season snowstorms that have racked up nearly four feet of snow since Dec. 1, allowing Vail (www.vail.com) to open more than 4,000 acres including Blue Sky Basin and China Bowl just in time for this weekend and giving Beaver Creek (www.beavercreek.com) skiers more than 1,200 acres with this weekend’s opening of Larkspur Bowl and Grouse Mountain. Keystone has doubled the amount of open terrain in the last week with the opening of The Outback, North and South Bowls. Breckenridge (www.breckenridge.com) unveiled its brand-new Peak 7 base area this weekend and upped its terrain to more than 1,300 acres this weekend (www.breckenridge.com).
And, the great news is that it’s not even officially winter yet. A winter storm is in effect until 6 p.m. tonight with snow in the forecast for the Colorado Rockies next week leading up to the first official day of winter on Monday, Dec. 22. Already, Beaver Creek is on track to break its December snowfall record. Thanks to the new snow, Beaver Creek will have 1,300 acres of terrain and 18 of 25 lifts for tomorrow. With more snow, the resorts plan to open more terrain. Sign up at www.snow.com to be the first to know about terrain openings, big deals and more.
