Northstar California™ Resort to Open 22’ Shaun White Signature Superpipe This Weekend
• First 22’ Superpipe to Open in Tahoe; One of Only a Few Open in North America
• Superpipe Built Completely of Snow Thanks to Resort’s Commitment to Snowmaking

TRUCKEE, Calif. – Dec. 30, 2011 – Northstar today announced it will open its 22’ Shaun White signature Superpipe to the public for the first time tomorrow, Saturday, December 31. Featuring 22-Foot walls and a length of more than 500 feet, the Superpipe is located on the Cat’s Face trail accessible via the Vista Express chairlift, and unlike most Superpipes, was constructed completely of snow.

“We’re thrilled to be opening the first 22’ Superpipe in Tahoe tomorrow for our guests to enjoy,” said Bill Rock, chief operating officer at Northstar. “This is a huge accomplishment, and I’m proud of our team and how they’ve worked together to deliver a world-class pipe for Shaun White to train in, as well as any of our guests who aspire to be like Shaun.”

Designed in conjunction with Snow Park Technologies, Northstar’s long-time partner in park and pipe program development and course builders for the Winter Dew Tour, Winter X Games and other high profile snow events, Northstar’s snowmaking and terrain park crews have worked for more than 700 hours this season to design every detail – where the pipe would be located, the pitch, the consistency of the snow made specifically for the pipe, when the snow would be pushed for the build, and the precision of the pipe cut.

“Our 22’ Superpipe was built to provide resort guests with a high quality, world-class halfpipe, as well as to provide Shaun White with what he needs to train for the upcoming events he will compete in this season,” said Mike Schipani, Northstar’s terrain park manager. “It’s not often that the public gets to ride the same competition quality pipe that an athlete of Shaun’s caliber trains in. We’re excited not only to offer one of the few 22’ Superpipes in the country, but also to get it open this early in the season for our guests to experience.”

Thanks to continuous investments in its snowmaking system, Northstar continues to offer the most open terrain and best snow conditions in North Lake Tahoe, featuring 26 open trails – more than 15 miles of trails – accessed by 17 lifts, nearly 40 terrain park features, lift-served snow tubing, snowshoeing and more. The resort continues to open additional terrain for skiers and riders to enjoy, and has offered top-to-bottom skiing and riding since before the Thanksgiving holiday. The most economical way for skiers and riders to enjoy Northstar this season is to take advantage of the Lowest Price Guarantee on lift tickets. When purchased seven days in advance online at www.snow.com/lifttickets or through Vail Resorts Central Reservations, guests are guaranteed the price will be the lowest available for that day – and significantly lower over the holiday period – compared to the window rate.
