5 Ways for the Family to Beat the Heat this July at Keystone Resort

Keystone, Colo. — June 28, 2016 — The month of July brings on the summer heat for many locations across the country, but Keystone Resort’s 9,280-feet elevation makes for cool conditions to enjoy an ultimate family summer adventure. Nestled among the Rocky Mountains in Summit County, Colo., and easily accessible from Denver, Keystone is the ultimate location to beat the summer heat and enjoy the allure of the high country, with comfortable daily temperatures in the mid-70s, plenty of sunshine and a bounty of beautiful wildflowers in full bloom.

From mountaintop snow tubing to activities on the Keystone Lake, here are the top five picks for cool summer activities for the whole family this July:

1Keystone’s Independence Day Celebration and Keystone Lake Activities

On Sunday, July 3, Keystone’s Independence Day Celebration will offer a day of outdoor festivities and family fun for all ages in Keystone’s Lakeside Village. The celebration will feature an outdoor barbeque, a stand up paddleboard obstacle course race, a petting zoo, pony rides, spin art, tie-dye t-shirt making, face painting, balloon animals and more. Many activities are free for the family, and the celebration begins at 12 p.m. and culminates with a spectacular fireworks show starting at 9:30 p.m. – the only July 3 fireworks display in Summit County!

In addition, guests can enjoy activities on and around Keystone Lake throughout the summer with stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boating, lakeside bicycle rides and more in a picturesque mountain setting. The Keystone Adventure Center in Lakeside Village provides boat and bike rentals, arcade games, beach toys, snacks and a bar.

2. Summer Snow Tubing: Yes – Summer. Snow. Tubing.

Even after the close of the ski and snowboard season at Keystone, guests can still get their adrenaline fix this summer at the Adventure Point tubing hill, where a not-so-secret stash of snow awaits. Situated at 11,640-feet elevation atop Dercum Mountain, Keystone boasts the only summer snow tubing operation in Colorado held on actual snow. Guests can zip down multiple tubing lanes, without all the winter apparel, and enjoy conveyor-lift access back to the top.

3. It’s Cool to be at Friday Afternoon Club

Keystone’s Friday Afternoon Club requires no passwords or secret handshakes to access the top of Dercum Mountain, just a free scenic lift ride. From 1-7 p.m. every Friday of July, free scenic lift rides are available to all guests, whisking them to 11,640-feet elevation where majestic views, games, live music and food and drink specials await. It’s so cool, it’s hot.

4. Daily Guided Hikes Perfect Outdoor Adventure

Offered six days of the week throughout July, Keystone features a variety of guided hikes throughout the resort, perfect to enjoy the sights and sounds, learn about the local history and connect with Mother Nature. Choose from five different hikes, including the free Kidtopia Nature Hike and Crafts, where kids will enjoy a short hike followed by making a souvenir, and the Mountaintop Nature Hike, a family-friendly hike along the top of Dercum Mountain where guests will learn of high alpine plants, animals and terrain.

5Cool Off at the Pool When You Stay with Keystone Resort

Beat the summer heat and spend the day relaxing poolside at one of Keystone’s numerous lodging accommodations this month. Whether you’re looking to spend the day hanging out at the pool, take a dip after a day of on-mountain activities, or rest your muscles in the hot tub, Keystone’s lodging properties offer a variety of pools to keep the family cool this summer at properties like The Springs, Lone Eagle Condominiums, The Timbers and the Keystone Lodge & Spa to name a few. Right now guests can enjoy up to 40 percent off on lodging booked by June 30, as well as receive free nine holes of golf and free scenic lift tickets for kids 12 and younger.

Keystone is open for daily summer operations through Monday, Sept. 5, as well as weekend-only operations Sept. 10-11 and 17-18. Lift access begins at 10 a.m. each day. For detailed operation hours, visit keystoneresort.com.
