BEAVER CREEK, Colorado--Top local artists will once again be on the clock along with the world’s premier cyclists Thursday, August 22, as the Pro Art Challenge returns to Beaver Creek in conjunction with Stage 4 of the USA Pro Challenge.  Up to fifteen renowned artists will stage their own competition as the peloton races the 103 miles of this year’s “Queen Stage” from Steamboat Springs to Beaver Creek’s mountaintop finish line.

The unique event will take place in Beaver Creek Village near the Covered Bridge, getting underway at 10:15 a.m., when the riders leave the start line Steamboat.  Artists must complete their individual masterpieces prior to the first pro rider crossing the Beaver Creek finish line, approximately between 3:30-3:50 p.m.

Prizes will be awarded to the top artists, with a variety of mediums represented in the Pro Art Challenge. With a theme of “America’s Race”, which coincides with the overall theme of the USA Pro Challenge, artists will be asked to incorporate this theme, as well as a cycling component into their work.

Throughout the day, spectators will have the chance to follow each artist’s progression, while also being able to bid on works of art. Part performance, part competition, the Pro Art Challenge promises to deliver high energy entertainment throughout the day and provides artists with the chance to interact with and showcase their work to a national audience.

"The most exciting element of live art competitions is watching the wide range of art being created from beginning to end,” explained Lauren Merrill, owner of the Alpine Arts Center and Pro Art Challenge organizer, with mediums including painting, sculpture, mixed-media, jewelry, woodworking and more. The Pro Art Challenge offers a unique perspective and first-hand look at the process each artist goes through when normally they do this behind closed doors. It's a high-energy art event that is equally fun for participating artists and spectators."
Artists interested in participating in the Pro Art Challenge should contact Merrill at lauren@alpineartscenter.org to request an application or learn more.
