Sixth Annual Tara Llanes Classic Mountain Biking Fundraiser Event Returns to Northstar California™ Resort

North Lake Tahoe Resort Welcomes Return of Benefit Event This Weekend
TRUCKEE, Calif. – Sept. 26, 2012 – The 6thannual Tara Llanes Classic, a mountain biking fundraiser event benefitting the Tara Llanes Road to Recovery Fund and the Reeve-Irvine Research Center to find a cure for spinal cord injury returns to Northstar California this weekend, with events scheduled to take place on Saturday and Sunday, September 29 & 30 at the North Lake Tahoe resort.

On Saturday, September 1, 2007, the BMX and mountain biking community suffered a tremendous tragedy during the Jeep King of the Mountain finale in Colorado. Professional athlete, Tara Llanes suffered a horrific crash during the first run of her semi-final heat. Following seven hours of surgery to her the back and spinal cord, it was determined she had no feeling from the waist down. Tara has been a phenomenal competitor throughout her career, and a dear friend to everyone in the mountain biking community around the world. The Tara Llanes Classic was originally started to benefit Tara’s recovery efforts, but has over the years, become a way to support other injured athletes, as well as the research efforts of the Reeve-Irvine Research Center.

The weekend’s festivities include a cross-country mountain bike race on Saturday, and a Super D race on Sunday, as well as an expo, Shimano kid’s race, bike clinics with Specialized Bicycles athletes Lindsay and Kirt Voreis, video screenings, a Sierra Nevada BBQ, raffles and more. This event provides opportunities for the whole family to participate.

“We’ve got a cross-country event, we’ve got a Super D event, a kid’s race, and an industry cup, so we’ve really grown this event. And, we’ve had a lot of sponsors really latch on and get behind the cause and what we’re all about,” said Llanes. “And, I of course want to be in mountain biking wherever I can fit in. That’s my passion. I wouldn’t feel right being anywhere else.”

Special group rates for lodging on-site at Northstar are available and valid September 27-October 1. To take advantage of this offer, guests should call 1.888.298.3156 and mention code 12NTLC to receive the discount.
