Vail Mountain’s New Gondola, One, to Open to Foot Passengers for the Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend
  • The 10th restaurant opens for lunch beginning Wednesday, Nov. 21
  • Additional on-mountain activities include lunch at snowshoe tours, bungee trampoline, climbing wall and more
VAIL, Colo. – Nov. 20, 2012 – Vail Mountain, the largest ski resortin the United States, is scheduled to open One (#1), the new state-of-the-art gondola for foot passenger access beginning Wednesday, Nov. 21.
 
Skiers and snowboarders currently have access to the Born Free Express Lift (#8) and terrain on the Born Free and lower Columbine trails – including a terrain park experience including 11 features – as well as an egress back to Vail Village. The Eagle Bahn Gondola (#19) is also be open to allow skiers and snowboarders access to the Little Eagle Lift (#15) and beginner terrain in the Eagle's Nest area.  Guests will download the gondola from Eagle’s Nest to return to Lionshead. Additional terrain and lifts will open to the public as soon as conditions and weather permit.
 
Foot passenger access to both gondolas will remain complimentary through Sunday, Nov. 25.
 
On-Mountain Dining, Entertainment and Services
The 10th, Vail’s newest on-mountain table-service restaurant, will open at 9:30 a.m. for service at the bar and will serve lunch in the main dining room from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Reservations for The 10th can be made by calling (970) 754-1010.
 
The Look Ma level of Mid-Vail will also be open for lunch from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
 
The Marketplace at Eagle’s Nest is open daily from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the bar at Bistro Fourteen is open 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This Friday and Saturday the deck at Eagle’s Nest will feature live music, food and an outdoor bar from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
 
Additionally, Vail Sports will offer free ski and snowboard storage during the day at the base of One (#1) for guests who ski or snowboard to Vail Village and wish to dine at The 10thor Mid-Vail. Overnight storage is available for a fee.
 
Vail Ski & Snowboard School
The Lionshead Adults and Children’s Ski & Snowboard School offices are open for all ability levels. The Golden Peak Children’s Ski & Snowboard School will open Thursday. The Small World Nursery at the Golden Peak Children’s Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Walk-ins are accepted and guests can also register online at www.vail.com.
 
Vail Mountain Nordic School
The Vail Mountain Nordic School will offer a complimentary on-mountain snowshoe tour beginning Wednesday, Nov. 20 through Sunday, Nov. 25. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. in Golden Peak at the Vail Mountain Nordic School desk. Guests will be outfitted with boots, snowshoes and trekking poles before leaving at 10 a.m. to ride One (#1) to Mid-Vail. Space is limited.
 
Eagle’s Nest Activities
Beginning Thursday, Nov. 22 through Sunday, Nov. 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., guests will also have access to a variety of activities at Adventure Ridge at the top of the Eagle Bahn Gondola (#19), including the climbing wall, bungee trampoline and a limited children’s sledding area.
 
Also at Eagle’s Nest and operating daily throughout the season, Walking Mountains will offer complimentary guided snowshoe tours beginning at 2 p.m. from Eagle’s Nest. No reservations are required.
 
Explore Vail’s First 50 Years at the Lionshead and Vail Village Welcome Centers
The Lionshead Welcome Center is open for its first winter season at the southwest corner of the Lionshead parking garage. The building includes restrooms, lockers, free Wi-Fi and a comfortable day lodge area, plus a pictorial exhibit on the five decades of Vail, a giant media wall with video clips of vintage Vail and staff who can assist with guest questions and help plan itineraries no matter how large or small. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in November, extending to 8 p.m. later in the season.
 
The Vail Village Welcome Center is located on the top deck of the Village parking garage. The center includes a new exhibit on the history of Vail created by the Colorado Ski Museum, a touch-screen display with vintage photos and interesting Vail trivia, plus information on the many things to see and do while visiting Vail. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in November, expanding to 8 p.m. later in the season.

Vail Mountain lifts will open at 9 a.m. throughout the early season to accommodate early-morning operations. Skiers and snowboarders are asked to observe all posted signs and closures, especially during the early season.
