2015 World Championships Organizers Get Thumbs Up From FIS Coordination Committee During Final Inspection
VAIL, Colorado—The meetings, inspections and presentations have concluded and it’s now full speed ahead for 2015 World Championships as Vail and Beaver Creek organizers have been given the thumbs up from the FIS Coordination Committee following the final inspection this week.

Approximately 90 participants, representing the 2015 Organizing Committee, Vail Resorts, the International Ski Federation, Tridem Sports, the European Broadcasting Union and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association, took part in the three-day meeting to review final planning and preparations for the Championships.

In addition, delegations from the next two World Championships, St. Mortiz, Switzerland (2017) and Are, Sweden (2019), were also on hand in conjunction with the FIS Transfer of Knowledge program.  Vail and Beaver Creek have been hosting biannual Coordination Committee meetings since 2010.

“This week represents a major milestone for us on the road to 2015,” explained Ceil Folz, president of the Vail Valley Foundation and head of the 2015 Organizing Committee.  “It was great to have all of our partners here for the final formal meetings and we are excited to continue implementing our plans over the coming five months.”

“Vail and Beaver Creek are well on track to host a very successful World Championships,” offered FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis. “The World Championships in 1999 were already a big success, and the Local Organizing Committee is working extremely hard to ensure that the 2015 edition will be much bigger and better. Particular focus is on engaging the entire country as well as globally and I think the world can truly look forward to a fantastic event in February.”

Vail and Beaver Creek have been hosting the biannual FIS Coordination Committee meetings since winning the right to host the Championships in 2010.  In addition to the day-long presentation covering all aspects of the event on September 3, the meetings also included technical inspections of the racecourses and more detailed work with the athlete, coaches, broadcast and media areas within the finish stadium.

The Vail Valley will have one final dress rehearsal for the Championships December 5-7 when the World Cup men return for the annual Audi Birds of Prey World Cup, featuring Downhill, Super-G and Giant Slalom.

“We have the green light and it is now full speed ahead,” concluded Folz.

Scheduled from February 2-15 of 2015, the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Vail and Beaver Creek are expected to showcase athletes from over 70 nations, with an estimated 750 million worldwide television viewers and an onsite media and broadcast entourage of approximately 1,500 members.
