Vail and Beaver Creek Ski Instructors Receive Logan Scholarship
  • Ten instructors awarded scholarships to attend PSIA Academy in Snowbird, Utah

VAIL, Colo. – March 9, 2009 – The Vail Snowsports School and Beaver Creek Ski and Snowboard School will be sending ten ski instructors to the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) National Academy next month in Snowbird, Utah thanks to locals Kent and Vicki Logan. The Logan Scholarship Fund was established in 2002 to provide continuing education and professional growth for local instructors through their participation in the PSIA Academy.

In order to be eligible for the scholarship instructors must demonstrate qualities of outstanding teamwork, professionalism with their students, enjoy sharing experiences and learning with fellow instructors and be great ambassadors for the Vail Snowsports School and Beaver Creek Ski and Snowboard School. Each instructor must possess a minimum of a Level 1 PSIA certification, be a current Vail or Beaver Creek instructor and participate in or lead instructor training.

The 2008-09 scholarship recipients include:

• Charlie Baker, Vail Snowsports School
• Lonnie Bredeson, Vail Snowsports School
• Stephen Devlin, Vail Snowsports School
• Dwight Dunning, Vail Snowsports School
• Andy Gould, Vail Snowsports School
• Justin Miller, Vail Snowsports School
• Ana Sivack, Vail Snowsports School
• Howie Beck, Beaver Creek Ski and Snowboard School
• Rob Kroeckel, Beaver Creek Ski and Snowboard School
• Scott Loss, Beaver Creek Ski and Snowboard School

“Both the Vail Snowsports School and Beaver Creek Ski and Snowboard School strive to provide first-rate instruction to our clients, and the Logan Scholarship helps us achieve this through their unprecedented contribution to continuing education,” said Dee Byrne, director of the Vail Snowsports School. “Many of the scholarship recipients have provided years of service and we’re confident that they will help keep our schools on the forefront of the industry.”

“The heart and soul of Vail’s legacy is embodied in the Snowsports School instructors and the incomparable experiences they provide,” said Kent Logan. “We are proud to support Vail and Beaver Creek’s instructors in representing their resorts and continuing to learn and provide a premier service to guests.”

The Logans are long-time patrons of Vail. Kent has been skiing the mountain for more than 30 years. In 1985 he and his wife Vicki were married at the top of Vail Mountain, the same week Vicki learned to ski. In 1994 they purchased their first home in Vail and in 1999 became full-time residents. In addition to supporting Vail and Beaver Creek ski instructors, the couple serves on various community boards and Kent served on the Vail Town Council from 2003 to 2007. Their love of contemporary art is evident through a private art museum adjacent to their home, which they have generously shared with local community.
