Kirkwood Launches New Hike-to EpicMix Reader

Kirkwood Mountain Resort has installed the company’s first solar-powered radio frequency (RF) reader to enhance the guest’s experience with EpicMix, Vail Resorts’ proprietary online and mobile application that rewards users for challenges completed, lifts ridden, and days and vertical feet skied. The reader takes advantage of Kirkwood’s legendary hike-to, inbounds terrain, and is located in the Covered Wagon area of the resort, along the southeastern-most boundary on the backside.

Kirkwood to Host First Stop of Rahlves' Banzai Tour

On Feb. 1-3, 2013, big mountain freeride action meets ski and boarder-cross strategy in a mad-dash race for cash, as Kirkwood Mountain Resort hosts the first stop on the Rahlves’ Banzai Tour, presented by Bank of the West. Taking place at four Lake Tahoe, CA resorts, it’s head–to-head action, four at a time, top to bottom, down a wide open course over natural terrain and snow conditions. This is the ultimate test of ski and riding skills.

With over 260 inches of snow for the season allowing the resort to build the cat road to access out-of-bounds terrain, Kirkwood Mountain Resort has launched their signature Expedition:Kirkwood Cat Tours. E:K Cat Tours take advanced skiers and riders on an adventure to hunt down fresh turns with a focus on backcountry education and safety.

Heavenly, Northstar, Kirkwood to Open Additional Terrain for Holiday

With up to 30-inches of new snow accumulating over the weekend and cold temperatures allowing the largest snowmaking systems on the West Coast to continue operation, Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort are evaluating conditions and plan to open additional terrain heading into the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

Kirkwood to Open Early for the 2012-13 Ski and Ride Season

Powerful early-season storms combined with the area’s largest and most advanced snowmaking operations have allowed Vail Resorts’ Lake Tahoe mountains – Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort – to open early with 111 acres, Tahoe’s most terrain and finest surface conditions, all on one season pass.
 
Heavenly and Northstar had originally planned to open on November 16 with Kirkwood following on November 21.
 
Instead, Heavenly and Northstar will open on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, with a combined seven lifts and eight trails, totaling 51 acres. On Friday, November 16, Kirkwood will open one lift and five trails, accessing another 40 acres and Heavenly will open Dipper Express, giving access to mile-long Orion’s, adding another 20 acres, weather and conditions permitting. All told, by Friday, the three resorts plan to be open with nine lifts, 14 trails and 111 acres, by far the most accessed by one pass at Lake Tahoe.

Heavenly, Kirkwood Receive 14"-24" of New Snow in Last 48 Hours

The first major snow storm swept through the Sierra this week, dumping 14-18 inches of new snow at Heavenly Mountain Resortand 17-24 inches at Kirkwood Mountain Resortsince Sunday night. Additional snowfall is expected through Thursday.
