The Near Death Experience Offers High Elevation Cycle Training at Kirkwood
This June, cycling enthusiasts from around the region will have the opportunity to enjoy high alpine cycling and receive professional coaching at the 2014 Near Death Experience (NDE) cycle camp.

The cycle camp is based out of Kirkwood Mountain Resort, which has a base elevation 7,800 feet, and is in close proximity to multiple alpine mountain passes.

“The NDE allows cyclists to take a break from their daily routine and spend three days focusing on the healthy pursuit of cycling without distraction,” says U.S.A. Cycling certified coach, Robert Panzera. “Kirkwood offers the premiere location to host this camp with its excellent lodging options and access to scenic mountain roads.”

The cycle camp includes:
• Professional coaching from Panzera and Cycling Camp San Diego coaches and mentors
• Indoor seminars and clinics
• On-road guidance and coaching
• Full on-road Service and Gear (SAG) support
• All meals
• A hard copy of Panzera’s book, Cycling Fast
• Entry into the 2014 Death Ride

Panzera believes training at elevation is extremely important and says, “Before tackling a challenging ride at altitude it is important for cyclists to see how their body reacts to the environment of rarefied air. This includes knowing how to modulate efforts, adjust nutrition, and modify pacing strategies.” Panzera added, “Another important aspect of alpine training is the high speed descent which we will cover daily with both indoor and outdoor clinics.”

This is the sixteenth year the camp has been held at Kirkwood. Resort spokesperson, Kevin Cooper, stated, “We are pleased to once again offer this amazing training opportunity for cycling enthusiasts. June is the perfect time to be up in the mountains with clear roads and ideal cycling temperatures.”

The NDE camp is scheduled for June 6-8. More information and registration can be found on the Kirkwood website events calendar.
