With over 150 inches of snow so far this season Breckenridge Ski Resort sits at a 55 inch base and is 124% of its average snowfall. December 2010 has been the snowiest month in the past 10 years, and we’re not even to the half-way point of the season yet.
 
January Learn to Ski Month
Peak 9, the ideal learning environment
Breckenridge is widely known for it’s variety of terrain (in fact, more than 50 percent of the mountain is advanced/ expert terrain), but what most people don’t realize is the other half is dedicated our unbelievable blues and beginner runs. If you are just getting on skis for the first time or a once a year skier just looking to cruise, Peak 9 is just the ticket. With a ski school and rental shops located at two bases areas of Peak 9, Beaver Run and at the Maggie, forget all your nightmares about a hectic confusing family ski vacation. With tons of programs for all ages and levels, and some of the best teaching terrain in the world, Breckenridge Ski School really simplifies the vacation that you have always wanted to take.
 
Whether you’re a novice who wants to tackle some of the longest and most gentle beginner trails in the country or a seasoned expert determined to conquer a double black diamond run, Breckenridge offers world-class ski and snowboard lessons for every skill level. Our Ski and Snowboard School boasts over 600 professional instructors and a range of group and private lessons to help you reach you’re skiing and riding goals.
 
First Time Discovery Series
Three full days of exciting discoveries, lift tickets and rentals. You’ll make great strides—all in a comfortable atmosphere that’s been known to turn beginners into avid, life-long enthusiasts. Registration is non-refundable, and reservations are strongly recommended to make sure you get a spot. The First-Timer Discovery Series includes Beginner Lift-Lesson-Rental.

January Signature Events
Looking for a wacky, winter festival, then you’ve got to check out Breck’s infamous Ullr Fest! This annual week-long celebration of Ullr (pronounced Ooh-ler), the mythical Norse god of snow, brings to Breckenridge an unrivaled Main Street parade along with live entertainment, the Ullr Dating Game, Ullympics and a family ice skating party. New for 2011, the Tuaca Body Art Ball combines painted, costumed bodies and performance art.
 
The week of Jan. 25 – Jan. 30, 2011, teams from around the globe descend on Breckenridge to hand carve 20-ton blocks of snow into works of art. A family favorite, the competition showcases pieces achieved after 65 intense hours of work, no power tools allowed. This is an awe-inspiring event that’s been making snowmen jealous for over 20 years!
