Beaver Creek celebrates National Safety Awareness Week, Jan. 14-22, by rolling out the Vail Resorts-wide campaign, “Play It Safe, Play All Season.” Through a variety of special programs and activities, Beaver Creek is highlighting the resort’s best safety practices for guests and community members, as well as employees. The Safety Week schedule includes several normally scheduled Beaver Creek activities, but with a more in-depth look at safety practices.
 
Safety Week is an opportunity to educate mountain users on important safety concepts across the many unique facets of a resort and mountain experience. Emphasizing the new Vail Resorts Play It Safe, Play All Season campaign during Safety Week provides a fresh perspective on slope safety and personal accountability.
 
Beaver Creek’s variety of Safety Week activities showcases the vast array of safety programs and concepts that lead to a safer experience on the slopes. Beaver Creek’s 2012 Safety Week schedule is as follows.
 
Saturday, Jan. 14 and Sunday, Jan. 15: EpicMix Photo Safety Booth & Pledge Tent
10 a.m. - 2 p.m. - EpicMix Photo Safety Booth: Get your EpicMix Photo taken with the new Play It Safe campaign signs and get deputized as a Safety Ambassador wearing a Mountain Safety Team coat to show your support of Beaver Creek’s Safety Awareness Program. By doing so, you’re making a pledge that you will Play It Safe to Play All Season.
 
10 a.m.- 2 p.m. - Snow Rider Safety Alliance and Beaver Creek Ski Patrol Safety Tent located at the base of Beaver Creek Mountain.
  •  Learn more about why members of Patrol and the Safety Alliance encourage the use of a helmet. Obtain information on head and neck injury prevention. Participants also can receive a free helmet fitting and are eligible to win a free helmet.
  • Beaver Creek Ski Patrol will be on hand to discuss mountain safety, Your Responsibility Code and most importantly, will explain the messaging associated with the Play It Safe, Play All Season safety campaign. Attendees will receive safety giveaways while supplies last.
2 p.m. - Safety Cookies will be served at the top of Centennial Express Lift. Be sure to “Know the Code”!
 
Sunday, Jan. 15: Care Flight Helicopter Landing
10 a.m.  - Care Flight’s helicopter crew will land at the top of Centennial Express (Chair 6) to demonstrate a Care Flight rescue and discuss how the team works with Beaver Creek and the community.
 
Monday, Jan. 16: Ski with A Ranger and Ripperoo’s Safety Parade
1:30 p.m. - Beaver Creek’s Ski with a Ranger program offers a closer look at the flora, fauna and Rocky Mountain landscape with a 45-minute tour provided by a U.S. Forest Service representative. For Safety Week, the tour also will focus on skier and snowboarder responsibility on public land. Meet at Patrol Headquarters at the top of Cinch Express Lift (Chair 8). A valid lift ticket is required.
 
2:30 p.m. - Ripperoo’s Safety Parade: Kids of all ages can join Beaver Creek’s Ski & Snowboard School mascot, Ripperoo, and ski down from the Ranch to the Village via Haymeadow trail.
               
Tuesday, Jan. 17Ski Patrol Sweep in Rose Bowl & Community Backcountry Awareness Class
3 p.m. - Guests are invited to sweep Rose Bowl, looking for skiers and riders in all in-bound areas before closing trails at the end of the day. Meet at Ski Patrol Headquarters at the top of Cinch Express (Chair 8). A valid lift ticket or pass is required.
 
6:30 – 9 p.m. - Beaver Creek’s annual Community Backcountry Awareness Class will take place at the Eagle County Ambulance District building in Edwards. Beaver Creek Ski Patrollers will discuss the fundamentals of staying safe in the backcountry including decision-making, weather, snowpack, search and rescue and beacon use. The class is limited to 35 participants. RSVP to Beaver Creek Ski Patrol at (970) 754-6610.

Wednesday, Jan. 18: Safety Rail Jam
4 p.m. - In conjunction with Beaver Creek’s weekly Rail Jams, members of the Beaver Creek Ski and Snowboard School will focus on rail technique and etiquette for kids. During Safety Week, safety videos will also be playing.
 
Thursday, Jan. 19: Safety Station at Thursday Night Lights 
5:30 p.m. - Beaver Creek’s Mountain Safety Team will have a booth where kids can color their Safety Posters to submit to the National Ski Areas Association Safety Poster contest. The new Play It Safe signage will be displayed around the booth at the “Thursday Night Lights” event. Mountain Safety Team Patrollers will also be talking about Your Responsibility Code prior to the glow worm ski down. The ski down is followed by a spectacular fireworks display over the Village. 
 
Friday, Jan. 20:     Family Friday Afternoon Club  
4 – 5:30 p.m. - Bring the family to learn about avalanche and other safety practices at Beaver Creek’s Friday Afternoon Club. Special activities and demos with Beaver Creek Ski Patrol and the resort’s Avy dogs will highlight the afternoon. Snowcat tours, live music, food and drink specials at McCoy’s also will be available.
 
Saturday, Jan. 21: Backcountry Awareness Day
10 a.m. – 12 p.m. - Beaver Creek Ski Patrol will host a free Beacon Training Class at Patrol Headquarters at the top of Cinch Express Lift (Chair 8). Class includes beacon and route finding exercises for beginners and experienced backcountry enthusiasts in the Beacon Bowl training park. Register in advance by calling (970) 754-6611. 
 
1 p.m. - Beacon Challenge: Beacon Bowl Training participants from the morning session put their skills to the test for a Beacon Challenge near the bottom of Centennial Lift (Chair 6). Prizes will be awarded to those producing the fastest Beacon Challenge times.
 
2 p.m. - Safety Cookies will be served at the top of Centennial Express Lift. Be sure to “Know the Code”!
