Calling All Artists: Beaver Creek Pro Art Challenge Event Coincides with USA Pro Challenge Aug. 23
BEAVER CREEK, Colo., Aug. 6, 2012— During Stage 4 of the USA Pro Challenge, as the world’s top cyclists race to the Beaver Creek mountaintop finish line on Thursday, Aug. 23, 15 artists will begin their competition in the Pro Art Challenge. This unique event will take place in Beaver Creek Village commencing at 11:30 a.m. when Stage 4 of the bike race starts and artists must complete the Pro Art Challenge when the first pro rider crosses the Beaver Creek finish line between approximately 3:30-3:50 p.m.

The Alpine Arts Center in Edwards is currently accepting Pro Art Challenge applications from interested artists. This live competition will run for approximately three-and-a-half hours and prizes will be awarded to the top artists. A variety of mediums will be represented. The Pro Art Challenge theme is “The World is Our Stage”, which is the theme of Beaver Creek’s Stage of the USA Pro Challenge. Artists will be asked to incorporate this theme as well as a cycling theme into their work. Throughout the day, spectators will enjoy following each artist’s progression and they also will have the opportunity to bid on works of art. Part performance, part competition, the Pro Art Challenge promises to deliver high energy entertainment throughout the day and provides artists with the chance to interact with and showcase their work to a national audience.

" What's most exciting about live art competitions is watching the wide range of art being created from beginning to end, including painting, sculpture, mixed-media, jewelry, woodworking and more,” said Lauren Merrill, owner of the Alpine Arts Center and Pro Art Challenge organizer. “The Pro Art Challenge offers a unique perspective and first-hand look at the process each artist goes through when normally they do this behind closed doors. It's a high-energy art event that is equally fun for participating artists and spectators."

Artists should contact Lauren at lauren@alpineartscenter.org to request an application or learn more.
