Help Colorado Mountain Express Fill the Van on Saturday, November 15
EDWARDS, Colo., Nov. 11, 2014 -- Colorado Mountain Express’s 17th Annual Fill the Van food drive will take place on Saturday, Nov. 15, when thousands of pounds of food will be collected for food banks across Colorado’s mountain communities in Summit, Eagle, Garfield and Pitkin Counties. CME vans will be parked outside of grocery stores throughout Summit County, Eagle County and the Roaring Fork Valley for collections between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

As part of a joint fundraising effort between Colorado Mountain Express, Vail Resorts Epic Promise, the Vail, Avon and Eagle Police Departments, Eagle County Sheriff’s Department and 9 NEWS’ 9Cares Colorado Shares statewide food drive, the collected donations will remain in the county in which they were donated. Beneficiaries include Family & Intercultural Resource Center (FIRC) in Summit County, Vail Valley Salvation Army and Lift Up in the Roaring Fork Valley.

Food and monetary donations will be collected between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014. Collection sites include:

Summit County
  • Dillon – City Market
  • Breckenridge – City Market
Eagle County
  • Vail – City Market
  • Avon – Walmart
  • Avon – City Market
  • Edwards – Village Market
  • Eagle – City Market
  • Gypsum – Bella’s Market
Roaring Fork Valley
  • Aspen – City Market
  • Glenwood Springs – City Market

In addition to Saturday's collections, Eagle County local police departments and emergency responders visited Eagle County schools to collect donations earlier this month. Teachers and school administrators challenged each grade to collect the most food.

“Fill the Van, now in its 17th year, helps restock food pantry shelves at a crucial time of the year,” said Robert Tschupp, vice president and general manager of CME. “With one out of six Coloradans reporting difficulty affording food, the donations make a significant contribution in the communities where we operate.”

Vail Resorts, CME’s parent company, is also participating in Fill The Van and 9NEWS 9Cares Colorado Shares food drive at its Broomfield headquarters on November 14 and donations will be brought to the Food Bank of the Rockies in Denver. Departments will compete against each other in an attempt to collect the most food donations from employees. Vail Resorts has participated in the 9NEWS’ 9Cares Colorado Shares food drive for the past four years as part of Vail Resorts’ Epic Promise. EpicPromise is Vail Resorts’ new sustainability brand which includes all of the Company’s environmental and community giving efforts. Through the brand, Vail Resorts contributes more than $7 million each year in cash and product donations to critical non-profits that carry out youth and environmental programs in the communities where the Company operates.
