Vail Resorts Commits US$110 Million in Resort Improvements
Vail Resorts will invest approximately US$110 million in resort improvements this winter to elevate the guest experience, bringing its five-year resort investment total to more than US$500 million. In addition to creating the largest ski resort in the US (Park City,) improvements will include upgrading Vail Mountain's Avanti Express Lift (#2) to a six-passenger high-speed chairlift, expanding the "refreshing" snowmaking system at Beaver Creek, adding new snowmaking on our recently opened Peak 6 terrain at Breckenridge, renovating rooms at the Keystone Lodge and investing in technology and marketing systems for enhanced data capture across our resorts, in our ski school and through rental ancillary services.

Vail Resorts to Invest an Unprecedented US$50 million in Park City

This year, Park City Mountain Resort is undergoing a US$50 million capital plan, combining with neighboring Canyons Resort to create the largest ski and snowboard resort in the United States. Park City Mountain Resort will have a total of 7,300 acres of majestic terrain, a new eight-passenger, high-speed two-way gondola, upgrade of the four-passenger King Con Lift to a high-speed six-passenger chair, upgrade of the Motherlode chair from a three-passenger chair to a four-passenger chair, new trails and snowmaking and improved dining venues across the mountain, including a completely new Snow Hut Restaurant with capacity for 500 indoor seats. Current Perisher Freedom Pass holders of the 2015 pass will also receive free access to nine world-class resorts in the U.S. for the 2015-2016 season, giving them the freedom to enjoy skiing year-round. With the primary goal of providing a transparency to our guests, and giving them more time for what’s important – time to ski and ride. After piloting the program in Colorado, Vail Resorts plans to expand EpicMix Time to its other destinations in upcoming seasons, as well as expanding the program to give updates on on-mountain restaurant and rental shop wait times as well. Vail Resorts is currently testing this ground-breaking technology at Perisher Resort in Australia, which is currently in the middle of its ski season. Epic Discovery
Introduced in 2012, Epic Discovery is a comprehensive summer activities plan designed to connect kids and adults with our national forests in an active, fun and engaging way. Through a partnership with The Nature Conservancy, Vail Resorts will bring scientific content to the eco-discovery experiences at Vail Mountain, Breckenridge and Heavenly and will contribute one percent of all summer lift ticket and activity revenue toward forest restoration projects. In 2015, Vail Resorts is investing US$10 million in the first major construction efforts at all three resorts. The summer capital will be focused on a mountain coaster, canopy tours and summer tubing at Vail, kids’ activity infrastructure at Breckenridge and an alpine coaster, canopy tour, rock climbing wall, kids’ activities and mountain tours at Heavenly.

Investments That Outlive the 2015 World Championships at Vail and Beaver Creek
Long before Vail and Beaver Creek hosted the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships last February, there was a tremendous commitment to excellence and investment in the guest experience both on and off the mountains. At Vail, the resort saw seven lift upgrades in just eight years; a new on-mountain fine dining restaurant; improvements to snowmaking capabilities; countless base area developments and more. At Beaver Creek investments included a new high-speed quad chairlift, 17  new acres of terrain (part of the new Raptor ladies’ course), snowmaking improvements, Talon’s Restaurant – serving as the press center for the World Cup and the World Championships – and a new combination lift. Unlike other major sporting events, such as the Olympic Games, the major infrastructure utilized to host the 2015 FIS Alpine World Championships was well in place prior to welcoming the world for the prestigious event and will be enjoyed for years to come.

NEW: Six-Passenger Avanti Express Lift (#2)
Vail Mountain continues its wave of tremendous investments with the replacement of the Avanti Express Lift (#2) with a six-passenger lift debuting winter. The Avanti Express Lift (#2) is a primary lift on the front side of Vail Mountain, serving intermediate and advanced terrain and dispersing skiers and snowboarders from Lionshead to mid-mountain. Upgrading the lift will reduce wait times and improve reliability. The current lift – a Doppelmayr detachable quad – was installed in 1989 and has a maximum uphill capacity of approximately 2,800 people per hour. Vail is replacing the lift with a detachable six-passenger lift similar to the Mountain Top Express Lift (#4). A loading conveyor and gates will improve efficiency and increase capacity by up to 30 percent, vastly improving skier and snowboarder circulation.

The Lodge at Vail Receives a Major Facelift

Last summer 56 hotel rooms were completely renovated, and the hotel’s corridors, main stairways and lobby also received upgrades while maintaining the authentic character and cozy ambiance. In addition to the most recent renovations, The Lodge at Vail also underwent renovations to the International Wing hotel rooms and ballroom, and added a new RockResorts Spa and fitness center in 2008; introduced Elway’s in 2011, a popular Colorado steakhouse named for former Denver Bronco quarterback and NFL Hall of Fame Inductee John Elway; and renovated the pool area and onsite restaurant, Cucina, in 2013. The transformation brings the iconic hotel to the forefront of Vail’s evolution, providing guests with modern comfort and chic décor.

Capital Hill
Breckenridge has seen unprecedented upgrades over the past five years. In 2013, the addition of Peak 6 increased the resort’s skiable acres by 23 percent with 540 acres, 400 acres of which is lift served and features both high-alpine and intermediate bowl skiing. Last season the Colorado Super Chair  servicing Peak 8 became a six-passenger express, providing a faster route from Peaks 6 and 7 to Peak 9 – perfect for guests to enjoy the remodeled Overlook Restaurant at 11,274 feet on Peak 9. This season we’ve added snowmaking on Peak 6, ensuring a holiday opening date for the lower part of the peak, regardless of Mother Nature.

There is Only One. Park City.
As part of the US$50 million capital improvements plan linking Park City and Canyons, resort leadership officially combined the two brands into one, under the name Park City, with a new logo evoking the former resorts' logos and the tagline:
“There is only one. Park City.”

Park City is set to unveil the following improvements this season:

Quicksilver Gondola: An eight-passenger, high-speed two-way gondola will whisk guests from the base of the existing Silverlode Lift to the Flatiron Lift. Upgrade of King Con and Motherlode Lifts: The King Con Lift will be upgraded from a four-passenger to a six-passenger, high-speed detachable chairlift. The Motherlode Lift will be upgraded from a fixed-grip triple to a four-passenger, high-speed detachable chairlift.
New ‘Miners Camp’ Restaurant: Located at the base of Silverlode Lift and the base terminal of the new Quicksilver Gondola, the Miners Camp Restaurant will more than double in size from the previous Snow Hut Restaurant, with 500 indoor seats and a  top-of the-line kitchen.
Additional Dining Upgrades: The “scramble” area inside the Summit House restaurant will see improvements  and a renovation of Red Pine Restaurant will include an additional 250 indoor seats.
Snowmaking and Other Improvements: Additional snowmaking will be added to trails in the Iron Mountain area. Other improvements are covered under a US $5 million of “catch-up” maintenance and upgrades clause in the plan. This is in addition to regularly schedule resort maintenance.
