Vail’s Legendary Back Bowls Will Be Open Saturday, Dec. 22
  • The High Noon Express Lift (#5) and Sun Up Lift (#17) will be open Saturday for access to most of Sun Up and Sun Down bowls.
  • Skiable terrain will climb to more than 2,500 acres.
  • Bwana Terrain Park to open Saturday.
VAIL, Colo. – Dec. 20, 2012 – On the heels of a series of storms, resort officials announced today that Vail Mountain’s legendary Back Bowls, including Sun Up and Sun Down bowls, will be open to skiers and snowboarders on Saturday, Dec. 22. Vail, the largest ski resortin the United States, has received more than two feet of snow in the last week, just in time for the holidays.
 
With the addition of new terrain in Vail’s Back Bowls,skiers and snowboarders will have access to more than 2,500 acres of terrain and the following lifts on Saturday:
  • Gondola One
  • Eagle Bahn Gondola
  • Avanti Express Lift (#2)
  • Wildwood Express Lift (#3)
  • Mountaintop Express Lift (#4)
  • High Noon Express Lift (#5)
  • Riva Bahn Express Lift (#6)
  • Game Creek Express Lift (#7)
  • Born Free Express Lift (#8)
  • Highline Express Lift (#10)
  • Northwoods Express Lift (#11)
  • Gopher Hill Lift (#12)
  • Sourdough Express Lift (#14)
  • Little Eagle Lift (#15)
  • Sun Up Lift (#17)
  • Cascade Lift (#20)
“These storms could not have been timed more perfectly. With more than two feet of new snow in the past week and more snow in the forecast, the skiing and riding at Vail Mountain over the holidays should be fantastic,” said Chris Jarnot, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Vail Mountain. “We’re thrilled to be able to open Vail’s legendary Sun Up and Sun Down bowls for all of our holiday guests and are hopeful that we’ll be able to open even more terrain soon.”
 
The majority of Sun Up and Sun Down bowls will be open, but closures will exist and guests are reminded to obey all closures which are in place for their safety.
 
The Bwana Terrain Park will also be open on Saturday, offering a total of 12 snow, box and rail features including a top to bottom beginner line as well as intermediate features.
 
Complimentary Mountain Welcome Tours are available daily and depart promptly at 10:30 a.m. from Eagle’s Nest as well as the Mid-Vail Ski & Snowboard School Desk. Guests who wish to participate are encouraged to be at either location by 10:15 a.m. to complete a liability release form prior to the tour. Each tour is considered a “familiarization tour” of the mountain and typically lasts about two hours.
 
In addition to the new terrain added this week, Adventure Ridge is now open offering tubing, kids’ snowmobiling, bungee trampolines, ski biking and more. For more information or reservations, call (970) SKI-VAIL (754-8245).
 
The 10th, Vail’s newest on-mountain table-service restaurant, is open daily for lunch in the main dining room from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday guests can enjoy après at the bar from 3-6 p.m. and dinner service beginning at 5:30 p.m. Reservations for The 10th can be made by calling (970) 754-1010.

EpicMix
This season, EpicMix is re-imagining the race experience at six of Vail Resorts world-class mountains with EpicMix Racing. At the Black Forest Race Arena in Vail, skiers and snowboarders now have the opportunity to race against themselves, their friends, and even four-time overall World Cup Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Lindsey Vonn.
 
Along with EpicMix Racing, guests can also capture their most epic moments are captured by professional photographers and sent straight to their EpicMix account. And for the first time at any resort, guests can share those professional photos on Facebook and Twitter for free via any Epic season pass or Epic Day lift ticket.
