Mike Jackson Named Director of Mountain Planning for Vail Mountain and Beaver Creek Resort
Vail Mountain, one of the largest ski resorts in the world, announced today the appointment of Mike Jackson to the position of director of mountain planning for Vail Mountain and Beaver Creek Resort. Jackson will assume responsibility for Tom Allender who has been involved in mountain planning at Vail since 1979 and will officially retire at the end of the year. Jackson began transitioning into the role on March 9 and is responsible for annual operating plans with the U.S. Forest Service, environmental permitting, on-mountain planning and a myriad of other duties associated with the resorts.

"We are excited to have Mike on board as the new director of mountain planning for Vail and Beaver Creek following Tom Allender’s retirement at the end of the year,” said Tim Beck, vice president of mountain development at Vail Resorts. “Tom has had a truly distinguished career at Vail Resorts for more than 35 years and will help to ensure a smooth transition for this important role at the resorts. Given Mike's familiarity with the company, the Vail Valley, and the local and regional governing bodies, he is the perfect person to take on this role."

Jackson has more than 20 years of experience as a resort planner for more than 50 resorts worldwide in the United States, Sweden, Norway, Japan, Australia and South America. Most recently he held the position of senior project manager at Battle Mountain Resort in Minturn, Colo. where his role consisted of mountain and master development planning; feasibility studies; recreational development; local, state and federal environmental permitting; sustainable development; and construction management. Jackson has a long history with Vail Resorts including previous work as an intern for the resort planning department and as a resort planner at Vail in the mid- to late-‘90s.

Jackson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.
