Vail Mountain to Host Mountain Clean-Up on June 15
VAIL, Colo. – June 1, 2017 – The U.S. Forest Service and Vail Mountain invite community volunteers to the annual mountain clean-up, scheduled for Thursday, June 15. Volunteers will be provided a barbecue lunch at Mid-Vail, compliments of Vail Resorts.
“The Vail Mountain clean-up day is an opportunity for our guests and our employees to come together and volunteer in their national forest,” said Doug Lovell, chief operating officer at Vail Mountain. “We are excited to welcome locals and visitors alike to Vail Mountain for a day of giving back, a barbecue and getting out to enjoy the beautiful mountain.”
On clean-up day, all volunteers should meet at the base of the Gondola One in Vail Village by 9 a.m. with their own work gloves, water, sun block, hat, snacks, sturdy hiking shoes and clothing for inclement weather. Volunteers will be transported up the mountain at 9 a.m. via Gondola One, provided with trash bags and then will head to clean-up various areas of the mountain from Mid-Vail by walking and limited shuttles. Volunteers should be able to hike for several hours and descend and ascend uneven terrain. In the event of severe weather, a decision will be made the morning of the clean-up to either continue with the event or postpone.
Beginning at noon, the Vail Mountain dining staff will host a complimentary barbecue at Mid-Vail for all volunteers. After lunch, volunteers can hike down to the base area. Those who choose not to walk down the mountain may download the gondola.
All volunteers will need to complete and sign a liability release form and bring it with them on the day of mountain clean-up in
order to participate. Liability releases are available online at www.vail.com in the Event Calendar.
“It’s fun to roll up your sleeves, grab a trash bag and spend a few hours in the forest. When you get to the bottom hauling a bag full of litter and see a few hundred others doing the same, you know that public and employees have teamed up to make a real positive impact on the mountain,” said environmental sustainability and compliance manager, Brian Rodine.
