Vail Resorts’ EpicPromise, through the Vail Ski Patrol and Colorado Mountain Express, is also supporting the fifth annual Food Rescue Express food drive for the Kids Backpack Program on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Walmart in Avon. The program aims to provide a full weekend of meals – breakfast, lunch and dinner for Saturday and Sunday – for local elementary school students in Eagle County. Students who participate in this program are in the Federal lunch program and many are at high risk of not having enough food for the weekend. The Kids Backpack Program started at Avon Elementary School in 2009 and included 10 kids each week for more than a month. The program has since expanded to serve 10 schools and more than 80 kids per week.
